Late to the party per normal.
I have a Franchi Intensity (12 ga) which I believe is the same as the Affinity 3.5. I bought it new about 10-12 years ago; at a guess 5,000-8,000 rounds through it.
The 'Click' issue has hit me a number of times, but once I learned the cause I have not had it happen more than a couple times, because if I even think I may have bumped the handle I'll rerack.
A year ago I had a trigger issue which caused the second shell to fail to fire - a full trigger assembly takedown/clean/rebuild fixed that.
However I now have a new issue. On a close-the-season hunt two weeks ago my Franchi would fire the first shell normally, however the first shell out of the tube would be immediately followed by the next one which would partially emerge from the tube - both of those would stay down on the carrier, locked together tightly (in-line with the tube).
Believe the issue is the carrier latch is worn, and instead of catching the lip of the brass to prevent multiple shells from trying to exit the tube...it's not, and the resulting lockup is hard to clear in the field.
Now I can't find a carrier latch - would take me 5 minutes to install if I can lay hands on one...if anyone has ideas I am all ears.
Interestingly, my backup gun is a Browning Cynergy Feather ('08; 12 ga), which has served me well...I've never had the misfire issue others have mentioned.
All this has me thinking about switching autoloaders; the Franchi has been great when it works and I swing it well. But too many issues that have cost me opportunities in the field - as OP said, my dog works too hard for that to be acceptable.
That said I can't complain about the season, as we put about 50 roosters plus some ducks and grouse in the freezer.
