Benelli/Franchi “Click”?

Browning and bottom barrel light strikes are a known thing. Nothing to do with the ammunition as you found out. A very large number of shotgun shells are loaded with Cheddite primers as most smaller shotgun shell manufacturers don't make primers. And even some of the biggest manufacturers outsource primed Cheddite hulls for their bottom of the barrel promo loads.

But 100% Browning is known to have bottom barrel firing issues.

Fiocchi, Winchester and Kent.....not much room to go anywhere else.

Is there a "cure"? I am not gonna shit can cases of ammo around a gun. I'll shit can the gun first

What I’ve noticed with my SBE2 I inherited from my grandfather is that set down to hard on the stock the bolt will unlock slightly and that is enough to get the click. Some replace the spring in the stock and it’s supposed to help. For me I’ve learned to just slam the charging handle forward as my shoulder the gun. To verify it’s locked.

I run the wolf +25 in my Benelli M2 20ga. It’s my dedicated turkey gun and shoots a steady diet of my tss reloads. I’ve turkey hunted going into 12 seasons with it and have never had it “click” on me.

Don't waste any more ammo, send the guns back in for service, get it back and sell and get a gas gun. I am sorry you should not be having these issues; I am done with browning shotguns, I have sent a Browning A5 back 5 times, a Maxus 3 times and a Nova twice. Now I am using an SX4 for the last 5 waterfowl seasons (seems like a Maxus clone) and just started using a A300, what I have gathered is find a good shooting shotgun and don't get rid of it.

Late to the party per normal.

I have a Franchi Intensity (12 ga) which I believe is the same as the Affinity 3.5. I bought it new about 10-12 years ago; at a guess 5,000-8,000 rounds through it.

The 'Click' issue has hit me a number of times, but once I learned the cause I have not had it happen more than a couple times, because if I even think I may have bumped the handle I'll rerack.

A year ago I had a trigger issue which caused the second shell to fail to fire - a full trigger assembly takedown/clean/rebuild fixed that.

However I now have a new issue. On a close-the-season hunt two weeks ago my Franchi would fire the first shell normally, however the first shell out of the tube would be immediately followed by the next one which would partially emerge from the tube - both of those would stay down on the carrier, locked together tightly (in-line with the tube).

Believe the issue is the carrier latch is worn, and instead of catching the lip of the brass to prevent multiple shells from trying to exit the tube...it's not, and the resulting lockup is hard to clear in the field.

Now I can't find a carrier latch - would take me 5 minutes to install if I can lay hands on one...if anyone had ideas I am all ears.

Interestingly, my backup gun is a Browning Cynergy Feather ('08; 12 ga), which has served me well...I've never had the misfire issue others have mentioned.

All this has me thinking about switching autoloaders; the Franchi has been great when it works and I swing it well. But too many issues that have cost me opportunities in the field - as OP said, my dog works too hard for that to be acceptable.

That said I can't complain about the season, as we put about 50 roosters plus some ducks and grouse in the freezer.

Weatherby SA-08 - I have a few buddies that shoot these they are about 6.25# they have the deluxe model and they are very reliable and good guns for the money.
They're only good for hunting with heavier loads. Right in the manual, they won't cycle the standard 7/8oz loads,15/16+ only. Which is beyond stupid for a 20ga.

My a400 20ga won't cycle more than a 1 1/8oz load. I've got 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 20 ga loads that it doesn't eject the spent shell for some reason. Brings it back and attempts to double feed. From the factory it wouldn't cycle a 7/8 either. Short stroked them. Sent it back and those feed fine now.

Our Franchi 12 ga does the click thing. It's annoying. You miss shots if you don't constantly check that the bolt is fully forward.

I'm almost completely over semi auto shotguns, I've yet to see one that will actually work correctly across a range of shells and not screw you on key shots or follow ups. Our last bird hunt, I took a pump as a backup and I'm glad I did and I needed to use it. I'm thinking about selling the semis and picking up O/U's.

The ones I have been around have eaten and spit out target loads just fine. I have heard that some seem to really struggle with that.

I had a blue a400 20 gauge that I really wanted to love...

But I had as many malfunctions with it as I did with SBE and its Benelli "click"

I think its true that some Benelli/Franchis suffer the click more than others. This makes for good rhetoric on forums going back and forth. I think my SBE probably lands on the suffers more side. After shooting it for 25+ years, it may be less likely to click, or I may just be better at checking it while I hunt.
