Banish 12

Somebody should buy the Banish 12 and do a real world review for us here.

All the Instagram stuff is like “nah bro, you don’t notice the weight”, “nah man, dosent effect your swing, it’s dope bro”….

Like mentioned by the op, silencer central pimps themselves out to low level influencers who get free/cheap silencers so say good things.

I would love a shotgun suppressor. Going to wait before getting one in hopes that there are lighter/more affordable options. I have used a shotkam on the end of my barrel. It weighs 7.5 ounces and didn't affect my swing.

Yeah, shotgun suppressors are a novelty IMO. You will notice the weight, it will affect your swing, it will affect your pattern, it won't be super quiet.

*this coming from a salvo owner which sits in the safe because of the above

I want to suppress my turkey gun and plan on doing a form 1 after Jan 1. Then will make an integral suppressor, drill holes in the barrel for bleeding off gasses and pack with stainless steel scrubbies. As shotguns are only 150-155 db, that should be enough to get under 140. For wingshooting, you can do the same thing and just shorten up the barrel to help with weight and swing.

I don’t think adding a suppressor that bolts the muzzle on would swing well. It might work if you put it on a short barrel like an 18” for hd. On a 28”+ setup it would be a big club.

I believe the best for bird hunting suppression is https://www.suppressorsbyphoenix.com/shotguns
Once I replenish my toy fund, I'll send an A300 to them and get a review done. I haven't heard of or seen one in person, so I guess I'll volunteer as the guinea pig.
You don't have to I just got mine last week. It reduces the sound with dove loads, heavy slow turkey loads, and heavy loads of buckshot to hearing safe levels best I can tell to my 41yr old tinnitus ears. Shooting a high velocity slug it's pretty loud. I sent them a 24" 870 barrel the balance isn't bad but it does add weight to the swing. It completely blocks the front sight so I added a vortex viper red dot and it barely clears it with my cheek high on the stock. All together it's ok so far not as big of a difference as a rifle suppressor. Honestly I don't know that I would tie that much money up in it if I had it to do over again.

For turkey or waterfowl, I would go with the Phoenix integral suppressors. I haven’t used them personally, but they appear to be the best shotgun suppressor design available in the US.

I shouldered the banish 12 and a JK Armament shotgun suppressor this weekend at the Ducks Unlimited expo. The banish 12 felt light, very well balanced and shouldered great.

At 9” long and 18ounces its literally impossible for it to not add a lot of weight at the muzzle and dramatically affect handling. What was it mounted on? And did you have a chance to compare with and without?

It was on a 20 or 22" Benelli SBE3

so take your 28" sbe3 and hang a 10+oz weight under the muzzle, and then tell me if you prefer that handling compared to the 20" with suppressor. 8" of shotgun barrel only weighs a few ounces, compared to over a pound for the suppressor. I think that would start to be more viable if you could get good suppression from a 8-10oz 8 or 9" suppressor. Remember even a couple ounces difference out at the muzzle makes a really big difference.

Yes, the suppressor is heavier than an equivalent length of shotgun barrel, but if you could get similar results from a 26” overall length suppressor + barrel vs 28” unsuppressed barrel, wouldn’t you use it?

I standby my earlier opinion that shotguns really should have integrally suppressed barrels and smaller bores than we currently deem typical (hard to keep weight down around a 12-gauge barrel, much easier around a 20-28 gauge barrel).

If it were that close most people would—but its not that close.

Also, there is a big market for inexpensive guns, many of which dont handle well to begin with. Many of those folks are not going to notice anything but extreme poor handling, BUT many of those folks are also not the type to drop $1000+ on a suppressor or barrel. Its the target and waterfowl crowd who are already spending $2k+++ on a shotgun and shooting thousands of rounds per year that will adopt and drive suppressors. But those are the exact people in many cases who will be a lot more finicky on handling. This is the crowd who can FEEL the difference between 30” and 32” barrels, and the handling difference between a beretta and a perazzi, that Im talking about. Those folks are NOT going to settle for anything but the handling they want. There is something about the combination of light weight AND long barrels that makes a gun easy to shoot well and feel fast and lively at the same time, that you cannot achieve by simply using a heavier but shorter barrel.

I don’t think you are ever going to get suppressed shotguns that compete with unsuppressed versions for balance and swing, but hopefully things will get better. The current US suppressor market is pretty much focused on chonky, in front of the muzzle options that attach using choke tubes. That attachment means that shortening barrels to to reduce the lever effect is either really expensive or just off the table. The integral options keep some of that weight and bulk back behind the muzzle. But that TGS YouTube video I posted earlier on the integral O/U referred to it as the “Drainpipe of Death”. While that nickname is totally Beavis and Butthead-scale cool, it’s still going to be a PITA to carry around and shoot all day compared to a Beretta or a Citori. I personally would be willing to give some of that balance up for keeping more of my hearing.
