Opener this past Saturday was a giant cluster fluck of people. Every access point at a minimum of three rigs parked by it.

Basically thinking about hanging up the bow until maybe the end of the month going into October.

But there's a 50%+ chance of rain. I've spent entire weeks spiked out hunting in the rain. Just wondering if it'll be enough to keep the amateurs at home.

I know some guys will stay home because they're afraid of losing blood. Like they're guaranteed to kill.

You guys going or stay if rain is in the forecast?

Just want to mainly sit back and glass. But would be nice not to have to deal with a lot of people. Nothing like leaving the truck at 3 am to have guys pull in behind you at 530

I’m with you on the pressure, makes it hard to enjoy when you’re bouncing between dudes everywhere, and they are all in a race.

I would tend to agree with you on the bad weather thing, it does help a bit.

It really sounds like you're more interested in being alone than hunting.

I like to hunt. Sometimes there's people around. That's just how it goes.

I pretty much hunt whenever I can, and just roll with what the weather's doing. Hard to change the calendar in a big way at this point, for me anyway.

Cant kill em from the couch. But I’ve never killed one in the rain either. I do enjoy sitting under my tarp during a mountain thunderstorm though. Very relaxing. Funny, the older i get, the more i enjoy the mountains and what God has given us whether i kill something or not that day. Bowhunting has taught me patience. I’m just out there enjoying and having fun. I used to put a lot of pressure on myself and that led to blown opportunities. Now i take what is given and enjoy the rest while letting the hunt come to me. That doesn’t mean I’m always just sitting still fwiw.

It's gonna depend on what Mother Nature's attitude is. If she's just giving me the normal fall shower, no big deal, but if she is pissed and brings in high winds, then I tend not to go out, as I have had a couple of close calls with widow makers. If I am already out and she comes in pissed, then I tend to stay in camp or another safe place and wait till she calms down. Right after a rainstorm is a magic time in the elk woods.

Especially if you've been out awhile, a bad storm is a good chance to stay in camp and get some extra rest. Then you're recharged and ready to go out the second it breaks.

I really like a good hard rain - never seen or killed anything in hard rain, but plenty of animals come out as soon as the rain lets up!

Go hunt man. Use the other hunters to your advantage.

For the rain, the only folks who stay inside during rains are most hunters, the animals live in it. Even granola backpackers stay out more in the rain than hunters. You’ll do great.
