Bad Accident TAC Event West Virginia

Really seems like this was terrible situational awareness, and lack of ensuring a clear range from both the shooter and the individual that was hit.

I have been to multiple TACs, shooting with my wife or shooting with a random group. If I ever have to search for my own arrow I ensure MY safety (since I can really only trust myself with that) by placing both my bow AND backpack in front of the target. If the next group is right behind me I also ensure they understand I'm looking for an arrow. If partner is searching for an arrow I stand physically in front of the target and make contact with the group waiting to shoot and inform them they are not clear. After departing from the target I loudly shout clear, and will repeat until some sort of return is received from the group behind.

If I'm waiting on a group I do not shoot until I have visual on each person in that group and receive verbal confirmation they are clear.

This is very sad to hear about, I pray the man recovers fully! He and his group should have communicated that he was going back there, and a couple group members should have remained in the shooting lane until he returned. Another practice is to leave an arrow in the target signifying someone is behind it looking, however I don't think enough people are aware of that practice to trust it!
Sky drawing has been the main cause of accidents like this that I have heard about in Redding etc.

I wonder what corrective actions will come from this tragic accident? I have been shooting 3D's for over 35 years and never heard of anyone being shot at a 3D event TAC or otherwise. Not saying it hasn't happened before, I've just never heard of someone being shot.

I've never been to a 3D event with the terrain and shot distances seen at TAC.
Some type of blaze orange or flo safety yellow requirement wouldn't be too much to ask.

Hate to say it but it was only a matter of time. A lot of people at the ones I have attended have no business shooting at an event like that. That’s from a safety standpoint.

But my favorite influencer shoots TAC and says its good practice, so I have to go and lose $300 worth of carbon.

I believe it was this guy from Charlotte. I've only met him once. If you're so moved, he's gonna need some financial help, otherwise keep him in your prayers.

Thanks for sharing this, glad to help.

I wasn't there, but this sure sounds like negligence on the part of his group and not anything ro do with course set up. My TAC arrow finding policy is: unless I see it right there, I don't spend time holding up groups looking for an arrow. It's generally trashed anyway due to trees and rocks. Tragic for the guy shot, regardless of how or why, and pray for his recovery.

Being around that many idiots I'm surprised his is the first time it's happened. Feel bad for the guy.
