Bad Accident TAC Event West Virginia

Wow, that sucks! Sounds horrific and the guy, given the circumstance, I guess is lucky. I would go to archery talk but I was banned for a year. I have no idea why.

Hate to say it but it was only a matter of time. A lot of people at the ones I have attended have no business shooting at an event like that. That’s from a safety standpoint.

Banned for a year? Me too! For posting a meme I made about made in America using a scene from pulp fiction. "Say it again MF! Say EXO packs aren't made in America!"

Funny I haven't missed them. 😎

AT has some more details on the specifics. Guy was looking for a lost arrow when his group left him and gave the all clear to those waiting. Next group started shooting when he was walking back and he got hit.

There was definitely negligence involved.

Yea surprised this is the first time. Last year at big sky twice people just wondered out from behind the targets while my group was shooting (had been given the clear). Saw a decent amount of sketchy stuff in 2 days of shooting, including some of the course routing and marking. You definitely have to be aware, but that’s any shoot. Hope the guy recovers.

Damn. Hope it doesn’t impact the rest of the shoots too hard.

They do need to increase safety a bit though. Especially for how large the events are getting.

Any range to be honest indoors or outdoor. I was shooting at an indoor range and had a kid fire an arrow while I was downrange. Parents said it’s because I was wearing white he didn’t see me, glad I wasn’t wearing my bullseye shirt!

Was that actually in West Virginia rather than in Virginia? Sad deal either way and prayers for the guy.

I was shooting a couple stations behind when this accident happened. On the first day I was telling my partner how I found it moronic that some guys were wearing full camo. (No idea if the guy that was hit was in camo or not). The foliage is dense, the targets are far and in cover, wearing camo head to toe at this type of event just isnt a bright idea. The sponsors should all create a blaze orange buff/bandana and make all shooters wear it on their neck or head while on the course, easy fix for added safety. I think a big issue was people not paying attention to trail markers and just taking off on a well worn deer path, leading them off a safe course route. I saw that more than once and actually the very first target on day 1, we did that as well. Glad the guy will live, scary situation for sure.

Know your target and beyond, always.

This sorta thing was bound to happen at these types of events with their growth in popularity. Bunch of bros walking a mountain course wanting to shoot 100 yards while deferring that credo to the organizers of the event. Ive seen a lot of targets placed on the top of ridges with zero way of knowing what’s over the other side of the ridge should you miss, not smart.

I hope the guy comes away with no lasting deficits.

We are all responsible for following the safety rules....and speaking up when others aren't.

Every single tournament I have short has a safety meeting beforehand.

It's simple, a group calls all clear- when its clear...they weren't paying attention and it cost this guy.

Heck, just yesterday a guy tried to ride his mountain bike the wrong way through our archery range.

Scary deal when your getting ready to shoot and some dude pops out behind the target. Someone better be standing in front of the target if another is looking for an arrow.
If you’re alone you wait until the next group comes and tell them before you search for your arrow.

For every accident there are numerous "close calls" I've seen lots people taking their dang time looking for arrows and lots of over zealous people trying to shoot. Most dudes are wearing their full camo duds and in low light areas i can see them blending in.

I wouldn't be opposed to implementing some sort of blaze orange requirement

That and maybe an flagging system on the targets you can flip up if you're back there looking for arrows, flip it down or change colors when you leave. I wear orange archery hunting on public whether it's required or not so won't catch me at an event like this not wearing orange.

I REALLY miss the classifieds. I was digging around in there several times a day. The rest of the forum I didn’t use much.
