I see people talk about taking pre cooked bacon on the trail with them. What brand or type are yall taking, and can it be eaten straight from the pack with no heating or anything involved? Also how long will it last?
Not a huge fan of jerky, but I LOVE bacon. Been cooking it up and carrying it as my jerky for decades. It will last longer than I know.......I eat it quickly. I always hope it will attract a good bear, but it never has. They probably prefer raw bacon.
We buy the Trader Joe's microwavable bacon. It tastes good and lasts a while. Bring a few tortillas, a couple of the peewee avocados, and some string cheese and you can make a pretty good wrap.
My guide packed Hormel precooked bacon last year in AK. I could not believe how good it was. I had never even heard of precooked bacon. Serious calories/energy.
