As I sit here bored out of my mind waiting for Tuesday to head to Canada for a Stone Sheep/goat hunt with my dad, I decided that I should share my DumbA$$ attack with the rest of you. We were both supposed to leave for BC 3 days ago (thursday) for my dads Stone Sheep/Moose/bou hunt and my goat hunt. The hunt is scheduled for 15 AUG-30 AUG.
My mom shot me a txt last wednesday afternoon asking if my passport was current. I instantly got the cold sweats and tried to convince myself that it was probably good. After sitting at work for another hour I couldn't take it and ran home to look. NOPE! Expired... Shit... Now what?
After a couple hours of research, pouting, anger, depression, and beer I decided my only option was to head to Chicago Friday morning and get a new one the same day. That was a solid 13 hour round trip that totaled close to $400 all said and done, but I have a current passport! I also had the pleasure of being on the phone with the airlines for a solid 4 hours total while I begged and pleaded to get my ticket changed reasonably. To get it changed to this weekend was going to be another $2k. I settled for Tuesday's flights for the $200 ticket change and a $130 airfare difference.
I feel that I salvaged it as well as I feasibly could. I will miss probably 4 solid days of hunting with my ol man for his stone, but it could be worse! Goat season doesn't open until the 25th anyhow, so that's no big deal.
Moral of the story... It doesn't matter how well your bow is tuned or how perfectly lined out you have your gear if you are sitting on your ass with an expired passport! I'm still not sure how that slipped my mind over the last 6 months, but it did. I bet it doesn't happen again!
