Capstick rekindled my love of and desire to visit AfricaAs a non fan of fiction books, Capstick’s books were all fun to read. If anyone just discovers them, when you’re done watch Out of Africa and many things in the movie will resonate with you.

I make a point of reading daily. Just a little bit, usually as I'm laying down to sleep.Man...I envy you guys that have the time to read for fun.
I was the opposite of OP...I was reading Gary Paulson and Micheal Critchon books for fun in grade school.
I read a few articles on Cowboy State Daily now and then...and too much here. I sure hope i can find time to enjoy a book again at some point in life.
Still waiting on that to happen.I thought this was going to be a thread about losing your virginity.
What a letdown.
I am not much of a recreational reader but I have read most, if not all of the books in the Joe Pickett series, and I have enjoyed them. After being forced to read books I had no interests in and make reports over them in school...I have been turned off from reading, except the occasional magazine.
Turned 36 the other day and decided to try it again.
I am now on the 3rd book in the Joe Pickett series and LOVING IT!!!
Just wanted to share my experience and reiterate that even though I'm from KY, I can read lol.
Not painful. I can read very well, in fact I'm pretty darn good at speed reading. I just have a VERY short attention span. It doesn't take very many lines, and my mind goes elsewhere.......all while I'm actually still reading. Kind of like when I drive 15-20 minutes across town, get where I'm going, and then consciously wake up and say "what the heck, how did I get here". Yet the whole time I was changing lanes, passing people, making turns, stopping at lights and stop signs, etc.......yet have no conscious memory of it.Hurt too much???
I get that.
+1 on James Lee Burke's Robicheaux series. I've read through them almost twice. Will Patton reads a few of the earlier books and can be found on Audible. Great Character Actor, but even better narrator for a book.Reading a book for enjoyment is much different than writing reports or being tested on the themes, protagonist, antagonist, or other deeper meanings. Its a great way to immerse yourself in a story and really get into the weeds on details you dont get from other forms of entertainment. My favorites are the Robicheaux/Purcell series, Jack Reacher series, and any Louis LaMoir type novels. For a solid D student its surprising how much I have read since the age of 35.
