Arrow wraps and fletch configurations

Getting in to arrow building. I have 15 victory rip tko elite arrows and I want to reflech them. I’m torn between a 3 or 4 fletch helical. I bought AAE max stealth fletchings.

Next who runs arrow wraps, any pros or cons to using them? Better or worse?

Can’t provide any insight on 3 vs 4 since I’ve only ever shot 3 fletch, but I like wraps on my hunting arrows. I use white or hi-viz. Makes finding arrows a heck of a lot easier.

Here we go into a few pros and cons of 3 vs 4 fletch.

Basically you want enough surface area on the fletch to control broadhead flight but any more than that just adds drag and decreases arrow speed.

Wraps add wieght to the rear of the arrow but do increase visibility and make reflecting much easier.

I do custom builds. Personally, I think wraps are purely for style and visibility. I strip vanes or wraps and it's not like the wraps makes things a huge amount easier. I get better adhesion straight to carbon.

The benefit of no wrap is that if you damage one vane you can replace just that vane. I use a AAE knob on a Bitzenburger for this.

I run arrow wraps for visibility wit 3 AAE Max Stealth's. I usually use mechanical broadheads and 3 vanes seems to be plenty to steer them out to 50-60 yds.

After stripping all the glue off the carbon I decided the wraps were worth it just so I don’t have to deal with that again lol. I will be shooting sevr broadheads. Field points I’ll shoot out to 120 for practice and 3D

Getting glue off a TKO is not enjoyable IME. Plus I think wraps look cool. Im assuming it's an AAE 26? if you have some helical on them 3 should do great. I think 4 starts to get overkill unless shooting large non vented fixed stuff.

Ive tried both 3 and 4 vanes with fixed blades, made no difference in accuracy for me. If your bow is tuned properly it wont matter
Used to use wraps a few years ago but got annoying having to redo all vanes if 1 got damaged. I just use fluro yellow vanes now

Alternative to a full wrap, I wrap the ~3/4" section between the fletch and nock with reflective wrap. This gives just enough reflectiveness that if my arrow isn't completely buried in the ground or leaves, I should be able to locate it easily with a light after dark.

Just fetched my new TKOs with the new alpha vane.

I’ve found zero appreciable difference between 3 and 4 fletch. What I have found a difference in is vane height. The taller the vane, the further they’ll keep broadheads with field points from a bow that is not perfectly tuned. How does that translate to hunting? When you’re shooting at a steep uphill or down hill, wearing a pair of gloves, pulling harder into the wall or torquing the grip because you’re excited, your bow isn’t really tuned.

Something with the blazer/raptx profile is going to give you the best results with broadheads.

Wraps make seeing arrows easier. You’ve got to refletch the entire arrow when you loose a fletching vs just one if you’re glued straight to carbon.

Well like I said, after removing fletchings and having to remove the excess glue/ little bits of fletching base I didn’t get completely off the carbon. I decided I wanted to use a wrap. Removing wrap seems much easier. I used a green scotch bright pad to scrub the arrow. I think next time I might get a fine grit sanding sponge.

I’m only doing 6 arrows to start off. That leaves me 11 arrows already fletched with victory’s version of a blazer vane. I will be able to compare results of 3 fletch Aae max stealth helical vs standard fletch.

Also mostly I care about hunting over shooting 3D. I do that so I can be on for hunting obviously. Practice makes perfect.

I do the same. I use some small 3m reflective tape and it's so nice to be able to find them in the dark.

Be aware that using a wrap can hide a slight crack in your arrow-not super common, but definitely don’t shoot groups with wrapped arrows.

I second all of this.

I will say, I get nearly the same results out of a AAE 26 profile as a blazer. Or DCA Super Sabre. But way quieter.

Agree with the noise difference between blazers and the 26 profile.

I will say I found the Q2i raptx to be just as quiet, if not quieter than the 26. Blazers are loud because the material isn’t very stiff. They flop. Q2i is stiff as a board. They’re less finicky to install, zero prep, brighter colors, and they’re a little lighter than AAE. You can also buy the redhead branded vanes from Cabela’s/bass pro, which are q2i’s without the logo, so there’s plenty of availability for them in a pinch.

I had great results with the max stealths but was tired of the prep work. Tried hybrids that I think had a bad batch of release agent. They would not stick no matter what I did to them.
