Hey, just thought I’d check to see if anyone is having success purchasing the general hunting/fishing license they you need to enter the draw. If so how were you able to get through. I keep getting kicked out. Thanks

Last day blues sounds pretty typical for Arizona. I had to start applying the day before the deadline. Keep after it

Been on hold for an hour now, my account is locked and I can’t get in to buy my points, I paid for the license though haha. I hope I get through, but it’s not looking good

Yeah I got locked out of my account last week and had to call them took 2 hours of being on hold to finally get someone to unlock it. I've still been trying to see if my hunter ed bonus points were linked up to my account but haven't been able to get through the last 2 days. Now when I call the number it just gives me a busy signal so either their system is messed up or they have a ton of people calling (or both).

I tried a few times before today but things jammed up and my account is locked and I sat on hold for 2 hours and got disconnected. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to buy my points which is pretty disappointing since I bought the 160 license. Not the biggest fan of the system they have.

Their system is always brutal.
Plus since you can use the license for 365 days you will have to send application in last couple days every other year roughly...

For example: buy license Feb 11th 2019 and fill out application that day. Then fill out June 19 applications. Then before Feb 11th next year fill out 2020 application. Then wait unit day before June applications are due to purchase license and fill out application. Then fill out Feb 2021 applications. Then before that June date when license expires fill out your June 2021 applications. Then wait until day before Feb application is due to purchase license....rinse and repeat.

You will save 160 every three years using this method. But have to deal with last few days of system issues every couple years. If you only apply for elk and antelope or sheep/deer etc...then you could save 160 every other year!

Hey guys, AZGFD had me put in for my hunts with last year's license number, then buy a license and generate a new department ID, then they merged the two. I WOULD NOT just go do this, but if you try to work it out with them and it comes down to the last minute and you can't get it resolved it may be something to try. Then after the deadline once the phone calls die down, call and speak with licensing and give them the old Department ID and the new one and have the Licensing agent merge them.

^^^ Pretty sure you need a valid license at the time of the drawing.

Hope none of you guys having issues have a loyalty point that would really add insult to injury.

I apply early and haven't had trouble. I could try to work the system like posted above but if the system crashes it would suck to lose a loyalty point and this years point to save $50 every year trying to apply as late as possible.

Good luck to everyone having trouble.

Accounts get locked from multiple failed attempts to log in.

There is no need to wait till the last minute for either a license purchase or applying for a hunt.

You can buy a license any time and pick the start date. You can apply with a soon to expire license showing in the portal, and the new license rolls right into place on it's start date. That "new" license won't show up until the old one expires, getting people twisted up and doing things like submitting multiple apps or creating multiple accounts.

I was on hold for an hour and a half to get through. The lady on the phone was able to get me my license on the phone then I could use the # to apply for the draw online without problems. She said they could not apply me in the draw on the phone.

As noted above, there is no reason to wait till the last day when spanning two years. My app has been done for a week.

For what it's worth, I was applying on Saturday and the system wouldn't recognize my Department ID due to a glitch in the system for buying the license. Everything was fine for the application system. . Hours of sitting on hold from 8:02 on Monday morning got me to the resolution above. They told me I wasn't the only person that this was happening to. Maybe draw odds will be a little better this year ;)

Your right you can buy your license on the 1st and have it start on the last day of the app period. If you apply for more than one draw its not quite that easy. I could be wrong so please correct me if I am. I know you have to have a valid license at the close of the app period. Here is where I might be wrong but my understanding is you have to have a valid license to apply.

Lets say you are just starting out applying for AZ. I buy my license in January. I have my license start today the last day of the app period. I can't apply for elk and antelope until the day my license is valid correct? If I am than in 2020 I use my 2019 license for elk, the last day of the app period. I have to buy another in April to apply for deer. I have to wait until the last day of the app period again to apply for deer. In 2021 I don't have to buy a license. In 2022 it starts all over and I have to apply the last day of the app period. If I am correct in needing to have a valid license to apply than 1/3 of the time you are applying on the last day for the draws. Seems like with the trouble some of the systems have had its not worth the risk. Is this completely wrong or do you need a valid license to apply?

Spending $80+$15+$15=$110/2=$55 per species if you only apply for elk and antelope per year.
Spending $160+$15+$15+$15+$15+$15=$235/5=$47 per species if you apply for elk, antelope, deer, sheep, and bison. If I applied for bear and javelina I would save even more per species. So even without playing the system I am spending less to apply for elk than someone that is only applying for elk and antelope and buying a license every other year. And on the year that the calendar rolls back you might have to buy one anyway.

Here is what I read off the AZ hunt draw info for elk and pronghorn.
What are the License Requirements? When applying for a hunt, you must have a license valid through deadline day of that draw.

I did mine a few days ago, thankfully everything went smooth. $175 later, I'm ready for OTC Archery chasing muleys.
