Are the UM Tikka action lightening cuts a good idea for a 6 UM or 6.5 PRC?

I really like the cuts on mine. I was surprised how much lighter my tikka with cuts feels compared to an unmodded action with same stock and barrel. You almost negate the weight of the can with the cuts. It also looks sweet!

I think the biggest advantage tho is having the open top. Makes it way easier to single feed the gun if you need and also if you ever had a misfeed, jam, double feed, etc under stress. Way easier to work on.

I will say I wish they didn’t flute the bottom half of the bolt like gunwerks does with their actions. Definitely not quite as smooth or fast as an unmodded bolt having fluting on the bottom. The nitride does help make up some of the difference however.

If you are concerned about weight, buy a short action rifle, not a Tikka
After having custom actions compared to a tikka with cuts and nitride, I’ll never go back to a custom action. All in the tikka is cheaper and better.

My plan would be to skip the action mods and do some wild fluting on the barrel.
Sorry that’s not as pertinent to the discussion though
