6.5 PRC Rifle build or buy 2026

Looking for recommendations on a build or a factory 6.5 PRC rifle setup for mule deer hunting in mostly mountainous terrain. Goal is around 8 lbs with optics and without a can. I will be placing an ZG 6.5 can onto it.

Serious consideration has been given to seekins havak element hunter with great fit/finish. But also looking into tikka builds with rokstok/bastion, shorter barrels of 18-20”, and action lightening by UM/J&A/OMR. Obviously this forum loves Tikka’s and builds which are all welcome! Thanks for your time and advice!
Eurooptic still has some closeout JP Sauer 6.5 PRC rifles. Some are around $500, which I think makes it a throwaway gun. That is can’t go wrong. I can attest they are accurate.
You won’t be able to customize it much, not a lot of aftermarket. Also, they won’t sell these in the future, JP Sauer rep said they were moving toward the higher end rifles only. They assured my warranty would be honored for ten years.

I just went through this process. I was waffling between a tikka carbon fiber barreled action builder from JA outdoors with a black tooth stock, a weatherby 307 alpine ct (which is in a bastion but doesn’t have a 20” barrel option without going through the custom shop $$) and a fierce arms carbon rogue xp.

After holding the weatherby and the fierce at the expo I ordered a fierce. It’s a 6.5 prc with a 20” barrel and will have a trijicon credo 2.5-15 x42 on it with nf ul rings. It’s gonna come in around 7.5lbs I believe with a scope and gun.

Having some sort of guarantee on how it will shoot made me go with a manufacturer over putting one together myself.

I’ll send an update once I have got some range time with it!
Handling several fierce rifles at Western Hunt expo the action seemed a bit stickier than seekins and others, but I am excited to hear your experience as the reps/company seemed like good people!

I built when I was in a similar situation. Mine is 6.5 Sherman Max. I went with a lone peak fusion w/ alpine cut, proof sendero lite 20”, manners lrh, and Hawkins bottom metal. I went with a 4-16 atacr but with a lighter scope it would have to be in the neighborhood of 8 pounds. No regrets

this guy definitely hasn't browsed the fierce threads on rokslide...

@Dark timber - What speeds you getting and with what bullet(s) out of your 22'?
I only shoot 147 eldm’s and with 61gr of H1000. I’m getting 3055fps avg and .75” 5shot groups consistently. With 59gr of RL26 I’m averaging 3020fps and consistent 1/2” or less 5 shot groups. Lapua brass for both loads. The gun is throated for this bullet with a CBTO of 2.475 at .025” off the lands and COAL of 3.110. It’s also bedded and the lugs have been lapped. It’s currently my favorite rifle. I’m only like 160 rounds into it.
*dont try these loads without sufficient freebore and work up to them*

I’m pretty happy with my 6.5prc Tikka its stock at 24”. Just started to load for it and super happy with what I’m seeing.

Having owned a seekins I much prefer a tikka.

Dang. How many rounds do you think you’ll get on that barrel?

With my 24’ tikka and factory 147’s I’m averaging in the 2800’s.

I would hope I get 1500 out of it. Tikka uses a very good quality steel and throats seem to hold up well.

2800’s? Dang, that’s pretty anemic.
