Archery hunters in Colorado forced to wear orange- take this poll.

Looks like the state wants us to have to wear orange in archery season cause of the incident with the muzzleloader this year.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to require orange in any firearm season. Archery tag during the muzzy hung? Wear your orange. That said, I much prefer NOT wearing blaze orange while trying to stalk mule deer with a recurve.

I’m to the point of give me option 4, or 3! It’s more than time to try and maintain/get back what we have lost in our September season.

I just don’t see it as an issue. 2 incidents in 5 years? What kinda asshole doesn’t verify his target? Make gun season requirements more strict and leave the archery hunters alone. If they move muzzle loader out of archery season we’re going to see archery season shortened by a week during the rut…

Just move the F'n MZ season to start immediately after archery or say 1 week later...how damn hard is that? These Game and Fish departments act like it is damn rocket surgery to change the dates on the regs. Why even think to shorten the archery season?

Did you see in the survey something along the lines of “would you be willing to take a small safety course bla bla bla” un….. we already did!

Get them out or lose, is my vote. Put them in the quiet time that’s already encroached on in the premier units of the state. It’s a five year structure call, but it’s beyond time to preserve and enhance what we have left tooth and nail.

Absolute BS anyway to hold muzzloader during a hunt that is for archers. I hate Colorado for that reason but when your stuck without tags what do ya do?

It is a hunt that is for hunters. There are also small game hunters out with guns, bear hunters and high country Muley rifle tags.

When I read these types of posts from archery hunters, all I think is you are a bunch of pansies that complain about everything. Bowhunters are freakin’ crybabies who play with toys.

I mean, goddamn, go hunt somewhere else.

Yeah they should just make every season any legal weapon and be done with it. If you want to bowhunt you should be good enough to out hunt everyone with rifles. 😑

Every state that I hunt whitetails in on a regular basis has otc tags, and an archery season that runs from October til January (ish). Bowhunters are allowed to hunt all the way through, but when any firearm deer season in in effect hunter orange is required for anyone hunting deer with any weapon. It hasn't negatively affected anyone's hunting that I know of. Who does the orange hurt? Seriously. Deer (or elk in this case) don't see orange, so how does this affect your hunt? Are you afraid to be seen by other hunters? Afraid that others will see you and crowd the area you're hunting? CPW is attempting to reduce the loss of life due to carelessness and plain old stupidity. I may not agree with a lot of their decisions, however changes obviously need to be made. A good compromise usually leaves both parties with something to grumble about. Wearing orange seems like a very minor issue. Seems like it would be worse to lose a week of bowhunting to a muzzleloader only season because archers cried too much about having to wear orange during a shared season.

touchy aren’t ya ball bag

I’ll hunt wherever but holding firearm hunts during archery is bs. Godamn you!
Camo clad bow hunters would get more than a week to hunt elk most places and shouldn’t have to wear blaze orange in your communist state. I hope California floods your ass!

I see the reason for hunter orange bird hunting or push style hunts driving the deer, to highlight those driving deer who may be behind deer. How someone could mistake a human for an elk, target that human and shoot them is beyond me. Did this idiot just walk through the woods shooting anything that moved? Legislate all you want, but I dont know how you fix this level of stupid. Hopefully this idiot does some serious time so the rest of humanity is protected from his level of stupid. We share the woods with plenty of none hunters, who don’t have to wear orange. Orange is not the solution for this level of stupidity, basic firearm safety and hunting ethics are.

It’s very telling that you perceive me as “touchy” when your the one throwing a temper tantrum over a policy in a state that you, by your own admittance, “hate”, yet to still choose to hunt. Especially when there is 0 evidence to support any notion that wearing Orange is detrimental to archery hunting. You are sharing the woods with other hunters pursuing both the same and different game, it is not “your” season. Stop being a child (though, time and time again, archery hunting culture that seeks to continually separate its identity from every other aspect of hunting, continues to propel itself further and Further into isolationist policy and that is going to ultimately fail. If you act like a child for long enough, the world will treat you like one)

While I don't agree with muzzy/firearm seasons going concurrently in the same areas as archery season, I'm also not stupid enough to go into the woods during those seasons without orange, so I also agree with the law.

I'd guess that most people on a site like this aren't the problem, but have you guys actually been out in the woods and seen some of the... ahem... fine folks hunting during firearm seasons? The guys shooting out of their trucks? The "forgot my binos so I'll use my rifle to glass with"s? The guys shooting at bushes that are moving because they have a hair tag?

Even without the aforementioned idiots, it just doesn't seem smart to be using a close range weapon wearing camo, trying to stalk up on an animal someone could be putting their scope on to shoot from 500+ yards out... that's a recipe for disaster. Even guys using muzzleloaders these days can go for 200-300 yard shots... not wearing orange just doesn't seem like a good life decision to me.

They need to move seasons around. Either close archery during the firearm/muzzy seasons or split the units up that are open would be the ultimate fix to the issue... until then orange should be required.
