Anyone own both a NF SHV 4–14 X 50 and a Maven 1.2?

If yes, could someone do me a solid? I would love to see a side-by-side picture of both reticles at 4X, looking at the same object, from the same distance.

I own the Maven now and can’t get used to it. The floating dot just disappears on me. I used to own the NF, and know it has a center crosshair, which I prefer, I just don’t recall if the rest of the reticle is as visible at low power, or worse.

8" steel, 250 yds, 4x on each scope. Added a few comparison pictures too, they are almost identical in size, SHV is ~1" longer.

Hugely helpful. Thanks. Looks pretty comparable. Is that the Mil C on the NF? Assuming the illumination turned on would make the NF even more visible? The Maven only lights up the tiny center dot.

Which do you feel is more usable for a close, quick shot?

I prefer the Maven, it is on the rifle I carry the most for coyotes, foxes, badgers, etc... The SHV is the MIL-R reticle. I find the bolder lines (esp vertical) on the Maven draw my eye to center better than the lighter lines on the SHV at lower powers/quicker close range shots. The Maven is on an AR, SHV on an X-Bolt; so use cases are definirely different. If I was expecting more use at closer ranges, I'd augment with a MRDS; but that is another conversation that isn't relevant on a big game rifle IMO.

This might be entirely obvious so excuse me if it is. But have you focused the diopter to your eye? I’ve owned both scopes. The Shv is definitely a little courser and more apparent at low magnification, but I much prefer the mavens reticle, personal opinion of course

Yes I have. Over and over. I can see the bolder lines of the reticle fine. I just can’t see the dot. I know I can bracket the target but that’s not intuitive to me. The illumination of the Maven is another sore subject.

I have a couple Trijicons with the dot and they are more usable because the dot is bigger. But if given the choice, I prefer a center cross.

I know you’ve mentioned disliking the maven center dot a few times. Apologize in advance if you’re a young man - but have you had your cataract checked? That type of lost detail may not be a scope thing if you’re older like I.

I sold my shv f1, don’t have the maven but do prefer the swfa 3-15. The reticle was ok but I think 20% thinner than swfa. For me 4x was not usable unless lit up. 7 is where I’d use even up close.
