I have a bison tag and had been targeting the first week or so if December to make the trip up for the hunt. However, as I understand it, you pretty much have to wait for the weather to push the bison off the park to get a chance at one. Down here in KC, we have had a warm fall and it's still in the 60's and 70's. Looking at weather forecasts, it does look like winter is moving in up there though.

Anyway, if anyone lives in that area, I would love some "real-time" intel so we don't waste a trip up if the bison really aren't moving yet. Also, if anyone has any contact info for a local helpful biologist or warden, that would be appreciated as well.

Same as far as weather goes. Last week they did get 22 inches of snow but I doubt it stayed past the week. My grandparents live in Pinedale so I will see if they have any info on what the weather has been doing in Jackson. Sadly it has been a weird year with the extremely warm weather. Currently in Casper it is in the 60's. I was up elk hunting yesterday and there was a foot of snow in the morning but by afternoon it was mostly gone just in the timber remains. A contact may be the "you bag it, we drag it" guys to see how the success has been. http://www.tagndrag.com

Thanks. Yeah, I did receive some promotional info from tagndrag and another service when I drew the tag. Interesting how they suddenly had my name and address right after I drew but that is a different discussion for a different day.

Haha they actually receive it from the game and fish I believe. It's an outfitter thing. You should see what happens when you draw a sheep, moose, or goat tag. Mailbox is full of promotional items.

I might be in Jackson 8th-12th not solid date yet. I will post any info to help you I can. You got my tag colonel100!

Thanks fellas. Yeah, I stole the tag from a few people here. Granted, I just have a cow tag so maybe that wasn't what you were applying for. Still, after the 100% draw last year and the word getting out in magazines this year, i figured it was the odds were the best they would be possibly ever again for a non-res.

bud, that's actually when we were targeting our trip as I have a permit for the Elk Refuge starting the 8th. Regardless, let me know if you will be in the area as we can push the hunt back if we need to.

There are several webcams for the Jackson area, including one for the Elk Refuge. Might want to check them out to get a rough idea of snow conditions.

My dad had this hunt last year and got a cow along the refuge border. He used tag and drag which will be the best money you spend on the trip to haul and load the bison into your truck.
As a teacher he did his hunt during Christmas break so a little later than your trip but give the game and fish office up there a call.

They want hunters to be successful to manage the population so you should get good info.
