Anyone have or have some time with a Steyr Pro THB?

For some odd reason, I've always wanted a Steyr, but not a scout, which is about all I have actually held. I like the short barrel THB and the older prohunter, but haven't had any experience with them. One of the few that I've not shot.

If you have, what are your thoughts? Balance, trigger, bolt cycling, extraction, feeding?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Ugly as hell. Likely the most consistently accurate rifle you'll own unless you spend 4x the cash. They just perform. Smooth unless it's an older grey stock model, then bolt lift is stiff. Pop the stock spacers off and you have a youth/small hunter LOP. A little heavy, but they are tough.

Oh yeah, you'll want to buy a "soft" recoil pad, as the factory one is a hockey puck.

I have an older pro hunter, bought it when I lived in GA. I like the ‘4’ position safety. I also like the adjustable trigger, on mine you can take it down to a couple ounces if you wish. Adjustable stock with spacers to fit anybody, and great ergonomics. It is boringly accurate, it will shoot 1/4” with pretty much anything, I hand load and just feed it factory ammo.

Biggest drawback is it is heavy. I only had $529 for mine and it was a steal And chambered in .308. Felt recoil is very low. Would buy another in a heartbeat if needed.

The only thing wrong with Steyr is the marketing department just sucks and these rifles don't get the press or the love they deserve on this side of the pond.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at getting the 20" THB in .308. Was curious if anyone had any sore spots with them. I've never dealt with the newer ones, just the old MCA actions with the split rear bridge.

I'll see about getting one ordered.

Yes, their marketing in the USA is crap. But, from what I gather, they haven't had a consistent importer here either.

I'd love to get hold of a CL II with wood stock, but can't justify that cost.
