Does anyone have experience using the new Holosun DRS-TH thermal red dot sight? I was thinking of replacing a regular Holosun red dot with this model on a truck gun ar15. I figured it would also be good for home defense and varmints at night. (I already have a dedicated thermal for this and love it!)
I have watched some reviews on Youtube, and it seems great for the money, but I am usually pretty skeptical since most reviewers are given items to by major sellers or by the company directly.

I've been playing with one for a couple days now. It got my attention mainly do to the overlay that allows a normal daytime reddot and a thermal when needed. Looking to use thermal on a varmit .223 bolt gun. I got it sighted and calibrated. My initial reaction is mostly underwhelmed.

Here are my primary gripes:
1) The FOV is small. Very small. Sighting in was fine with reddot but when I went to thermal and tried to find a hothands bag to plink at, it was a chore. Even in close quarter home defense situation it might be tough to acquire a target.

2) The buttons are easy enough to memorize, but the size of the buttons and their layout is super small and it's easy to hit the wrong button in the dark.

3) The 1x magnification on the reddot is not enough for what I want. Hard to find a pinpoint target at 100+ yards. I was kicking around the idea of adding a 3x magnifier, but not sure I want more to mess with and the 3x and 5x on the thermal degrade the image more than I had hoped.

As of today I'm leaning toward returning this unit an going with an AGM rattler v2.
The screen detail and fov is much better.

Here's a nice side-by-side vid:

I bought one a month or so ago. It works and I didn’t have any issues hitting targets. It didn’t work for me because I couldn’t really ID any targets like an armadillo vs an opossum vs neighbor’s cat or coyote vs fox vs dog. It’s for sale on eBay right now actually. I bought a better scope rather than having to run a 1x helmet mount monocular, DRS and spotter for my application. It’s not great for scanning with the narrow field of view but it you know where your target is, you can hit it within a reasonable range.
