Nothing to plan for me. I've hunted the same unit for elk for over 60 years. I've got it figured out by now. :)

Headed to MT in Sept- it will be my 4th time out west for elk. Gathering gear, starting to get in shape and will be buying a new bow soon.

All summer I'll be exercising and shooting. I think about it every day- bring on Sept!!!

How many times have you tagged out in that 60yrs, I'd love to be able to hunt Elk every year, but there is a big pond between me and the Elk(Atlantic)

I talk about the methods I use to hunt and gear used. I also answer questions when I can. It's not my style to talk about kills. It's how I was brought up. My dad would have knocked me out if I bragged about a kill, or took a picture. It's stayed with me all my life.

I'll just say I love elk meat, and I try to keep the freezer full.

Nuffs said, that's a great answer :)

This will be my 5th bowhunting trip to Colorado and I'm yet to tag out, but it's never been about the kill. I've had some amazing, memorable encounters and each year I learn more ie researching kit, sign, terrain, sounds(Thank you Paul aka Elknut) and conditioning myself for every trip, I love every moment I'm in the Mountains and all the preperation leading up to it, but it would be harder if my wife wasn't so understanding........ fortunately for me , she thinks its awesome that her fella goes chasing Elk around the Mountains with a Bow and Arrow

Excited? Yes. I've only got 4 months and 7 days to finish preparing. Been going to the gym and gathering (draining my bank acct) on gear. This'll be my first western archery hunt and first multiday backcountry hunt. I'm planning on 4 days before the hunt starts and 11 days of hunting before I have to come back to reality.

Great atitude and just the way I feel too. You'll get your share of elk in time. As long as you love the hunt you can't go wrong.

I was getting excited but then I tore my bicep. I'm not sure if I will be able to hunt this year. I still have to get an MRI and go from there.

Bails-UK, no problem, glad the material is helping you out!

I tore my calf muscle several months back, it's a 4" tear, not good! I've been rehabbing it but it will take up to 7 months before I can really use my left leg at all. No way on earth I would miss an elk season though. I will be out there even if I have to use crutches! (grin) Fingers crossed that won't be necessary!

Oh no! Hope you heal quickly. Did you have surgery? Side note, I can volunteer to be your Sherpa if you need one?

If we're going to whine about injuries. I broke my back 4 weeks ago. I'll still be hunting come Sept.

Camelcluch and Paul, my friend an ex Royal Marine snapped his bicep cartilage from his forearm, I know where you're coming from, but 3 months later he's back on the Lifeboat crew and working...... wishing you and Paul a speedy recovery in time for Elk season!
