Any wool pant recommendations?

Wow, that Grey colorway looks way darker than I was anticipating from their website. Is the picture deceiving or are the Cotton/Poly panels just straight black?
It's pretty black. Here's a picture compared to two items that I consider straight black (under somewhat warm lighting).IMG_2830.jpeg
I'm going to order a pair of the Woolshell's and have the same modifications done -- did you guys ask for any particular type of zipper, or take your own in? I've never had a seamstress modify my clothing before, appreciate any pointers to get it right the first time.
I didn't ask for a particular zipper, and perhaps should have thought of that. FWIW mine is a YKK pull and here's a picture with a 5.56 BH TMK round for scale.IMG_2831.jpeg

how much did you pay for the mods on these? I'm tempted to buy a pair and I believe I live fairly close to you, so it would likely be helpful to use to same seamstress. I'm in Loudoun County, VA
I am over 600 miles away from you, so I can't help with a seamstress. As for what I paid, I can't remember the number, but I do remember thinking that it would be embarrassing if I ever told anyone, even as a relatively anonymous person on RS.

Much appreciated, it will pair nicely with my black High-E hoodie -- because fashion is important in the field!

I have a pair of the original FL wool pants, which were pretty lightweight and not real durable. The best winter wool pants I have ever had were from King of the Mountain. I bought them used off of eBay. It was like putting on a suit of armor.
Huge fan of the hillbilly bibs from King of the Mountains. I destroyed mine and have been searching for a cheap pair for years.

Does anyone have recommendations for 100% wool winter pants? Filson look great but at $450 a pair.. Ouch. I've also heard the quality has slipped recently. About the only affordable option I've seen are the big bill pants which are 80 wool and 20 nylon. Curious if anyone has tried these. I have one pair of army surplus wool pants which I found at a thrift store that have been great, seems like there should be more options for similar in new but I haven't found them yet
Big bill pants are awesome. But only for the coldest of hunts where you aren't hiking up hill. They are to warm for walking up hill. Great to wear cold weather truck camping.

autumnwood wool for 25 years.no longer available.better fit and tighter weave.better than kom.i believe original sleeping indian was also a touch better than kon.kom is very good,i had some years ago.

have a brand new 3 layer xl vest.autumnwood outfitters was the brand name.tightest weave wool, has a highly water resistant membrane which is also a wind block under the wool, then a high quality fleece next on the inside.just mentioning and should probably have put in another thread.to buy something comparable today would cost $650.00 to $700.00 dollars.extreme warmth provided.worked with owner for years, have many garments from them.$475 if interested,i will check back to see if anyone is interested.

I bought a pair of Big Bill wool pants as did my partner. I think I paid $115 for them. I did an inventory of my wool pants shelf this winter and I have that pair, a woolrich pair and my current woolrich pair with patches on the butt and a reinforced crotch. I think I am good for a while.

My wife found me a woolrich shirt ( God only knows where) for christmas. I wear my old one early in the season and switch to the heavier one around vets day. All depends on the winter.
