Tacoma TRD off road comes with Bilstein shocks. Pro is fox I believe.

My Ranger Tremor has Fox, and I didn't realize they need a rebuild at 50,000 miles. Which I have not done still at 80K. ride is not horrible, but noticeable.

I have looked at the Eibach line and like them. I plan to replace the ranger soon, as I don't keep anything much past pay off. My next ride may just be a plain ole 4x4 and add my own suspension.

ICON's with CDC adjusters. You really can't get better bolt-on performance than that.

Disclaimer: I drive my overweight truck faster than I should, so my preference reflects the need for a good balance of valving for small/medium bump compliance and decent large bump (oopsie) support while not blowing through travel.

I have a 2nd Gen ZR2 on custom spec ADS. Had King before and also ran the stock DSSV for a while. Three of my friends have ICON w/ CDC and all of them perform amazingly. Those out of the box ICON's are better than my friend's Taco on Fox 2.5 Baja Kits mid travel w/ 12" rear on custom leafpack. Lets just say that if ICON released a set for 2nd Gen ZR2, I'd consider selling my ADS. The bottom out support is second to none (that i've experienced). Also have time with Old Man Emu (VERY STIFF), Bilstein 4600 (decent budget), Bilstein 5100 (great budget), Fox 2.5 (On the stiffer side but dual comp adjusters help a lot).

I would like to try a set of the Bilstein 8112 series. They seem like they would be a strong contender against ICON with similar compression "zones".

Haven’t really thought about it, if I’m going to do it I want it to be noticeably better than current and I know nothing is cheap

Multimatic would be awesome but assume it’s not very straightforward and probably a lot of dough

I would think 5k is what I would tell my wife as a budget, but I’m not great at staying under budget

I dont care if its a truck or a bike. Suspension money is some of the best money you can spend IMO. $5k oughtta get it done

Good ride on gravel/washboard, good road handling

The bilstiens on it seems slow to recover are not great on bumpy roads, and not great on pavement, like going around a corner, hit a bump and it’s not just the initial bounce, it doesn’t recover quickly, and it sways side to side… not terrible, i just prefer better

My last 2 zr2’s with multimatic suspension was awesome everywhere, you could be dug into a corner going quick, hit a pothole and never lose traction, of course you feel the bump but it doesn’t sway or keep bouncing, I want my taco to remind me of a gutless zr2

Kings. They have been great on my 1500. Bilsteins imo are hot trash. Rough ride and terrible rebound. Any good shock needs rebuilt around 40-50,000 miles. I have heard good things about Ikon as well. I have their UCA's and they feel and look well made. Greasable on all 3 spots which is nice.

Whatever you do do not re use the oem springs.
Ome springs are known to squeak.

I’ve had a couple lifted 1st gen Tacoma’s
A lifted 1 gen tundra. And now a lifted gen 2.5 tundra

I’ve read a few things about the bilstiens not being up to par but so far my use case has been ok.

Do you have extra weigh/ winch etc

I had an 04 taco with 5100 with the 883 springs with an arb bumper/ winch and it was rite at 2.5” lift and cleared 32x11.50s

It also had the wheelers off-road 5 leaf rear packs
All that was pretty good.

My gen 1 tundra had 5100 and stock springs it was ok until I did the bumper/winch so I put springs on the 5100 it was good

I’m running the 6112/5160s on my gen 2 tundra and icon rxt packs setting 2 with a bumper,winch,canopy, decked and it’s great.

If you have extra weight or drive fast the bigger shock bodies help.

Currently I’d say 6112/5160 with a rear spring pack is a good middle ground.

But I haven’t had it long enough to know how it’s gonna play out durability wise.
