Any Experience with Custom Order Ford Super Duty?

I'm looking at doing a custom order from Ford and would like to know if anyone on here has any experience doing the same in recent years and can maybe offer some pointers or suggestions on items I'm not thinking about.

I started shopping by looking at dealer inventory, but there are very few long bed F-250 that hit all of my must-have items. To get everything I want, I'd have to go with an upper end Lariat, which is pretty steep on price and includes a lot of features that I won't use or don't want. Out of curiosity, I used the Ford builder website and built a Lariat with a few tech upgrades like 6.7 HO engine and 3.31 electric locker in the rear. The option to do a carpet delete and have imitation leather seats is also quite favorable to me. The msrp listed on the website is lower than most inventory Lariats. I reached out to a few dealers to inquire about the custom order process and pricing. The price they gave me is $10-$12k less than something on the lot that would work for me. The only downside is that it'll be 2-6 months before the rig is delivered and I can take ownership.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go this route. I've spent hours on the Ford website browsing upgrades, and I've been watching YT vids, but I figured I'd ask here as well. Are there any features that you ordered on yours that you find to be worth the money? Anything that isn't worth the expense? Even for those that went with models on the lot, What extras do you like about your pickup, and what would you have rather done without and saved money on?

Ordered a 26 f250 xl 6.8 with a few basics in late November and got it around feb 12, as the dealer said ~12 weeks and it was between 12 and 13 weeks.

Not sure how long the loaded up fancy ones take?

I did in 2022 when used trucks were stupid prices. At the time granger ford in Iowa was 2% under invoice, asked a dozen local dealers to price match, two did, one knocked off $500 more to win between the two.

I haven’t paid attention to the latest stuff but at the time some things that got me features I wanted most cost effective.
-f350 came with a 3.73 rear versus 3.55 without having to go 4.3 in the engine I wanted
-black package got LED headlights and 34” tires without going tremor
-regular 4x4 and manually adding the skid plates got most of the benefits of fx4
-I enjoy the carpet delete
-upfitter switches is a cheap useful add on
-heated rear seats was pretty cheap and rear passengers like it
-lariot value package was cost effective getting tech I wanted without paying for a bunch I didn’t want in the ultimate package
-360 camera are great with the large truck in tight spots

Only one I’ve ordered was a 450 Limited. Took quite a while to get in. I think 6-8 months. Was not in a rush so not a big deal for us.

I can’t help with options as I order F150s instead of F250s.

But I’d highly recommend checking with Granger Ford in Iowa about your order. They come in at 4% below dealer invoice cost. I ordered a custom power boost in 2022 from them. And I just took delivery of a custom ordered 2026 power boost ordered from Granger as well. They have the best pricing I found anywhere.

Just do your build on the Ford website and email it over to them and they’ll give you a price quote.

I ordered my 2026 truck on December 1 and it delivered to the dealership March 1.

Ordered one in January '98, delivered in May '98. It was a different deal back then.....

Thanks for the recommendation on Granger! They are coming in about a grand lower than the local dealers. I'm forwarding the Granger quote to see if the locals want to beat it.

Or at least match it. That was all I was going for to save me going to Iowa to pick it up but I would have absolutely done so compared to the pricing some dealers wanted. Just blanket all the dealers within 100mi or so to their online sales manager via email so you can just cut through the BS and don't get into some verbal haggle. Either they want to deal or not. Some dealers replied saying no way could someone offer that price, just move on from those clowns. Some will conduct business in the new way and some will play the old games.

Id tack on a few months on delivery to what they quote. My father inlaw runs a hot shot trucking business and buys a new truck every 2 years. I dont think its ever been on time.

I just picked up an F350 from Granger this past weekend. They were much cheaper than any of the dealers I spoke to in Texas. I highly recommend them.
I did react to them, and a local dealer is willing to match their price. I'm not sure if Granger can be talked down more than what they initially offer, but their online quote system and response time is pretty impressive. I think I'm getting a pretty good deal.

I ordered a 2019 F 350 XLT crew cab longbed pre covid. It took 6 weeks from order date to delivery. I got the 6.2 gas with 4:30 gears. The F350 came with the r6 140 transmission vs the r6 100 in the F250. I bought this truck to tow a RV, and I never saw a truck on any dealer lots with 4:30 gears. I live near the Rockies so the right gearing is important. Having a 48 gallon gas tank comes in real handy too.

I ordered a few other options like carpet delete, wheel well liners, 4x4, electric rear locker, bliss system, and 18" wheels. 45,000 miles without any issues.

I knew in 2020 the new motor and transmission were available. I believe you never buy 1st year of any motor or transmission.

If putting in the time to order one, I would just add all the little things that are nice and don’t add much cost. Even for the expensive things, many are cheaper to do at the factory like 5th wheel/gooseneck prep and spray in bedliner. Even if you don’t need the 5th wheel now, I’d add it just in case and for resale — it is a major PITA to do after the fact and opens up a whole buyers market for you.

*Upfitter switches
*Keyless entry pad (I use a ton)
*Valence lights (cheap and make truck look mean, especially at night imo,)
* carpet delete
* console vault (I like mine, adds a little extra protection for valuables/gun that need to be left in car, helps with some states on legality of having gun in vehicle, etc)
*add all the bed steps you can
* wheel well liners and mud flaps
*larger alternators
*heated/ventilated seats are a nice luxury
*360 camera and larger screen are great
*get the block heater and supplemental cab heater if going diesel, etc.
* essentially if it’s under a couple hundred bucks and you think it’s nice, just add it now
*8 foot bed, just do it. Makes the truck so much more functional, better tow vehicle, larger fuel tank, etc.

I would go buy once cry once on the truck. Yes you may add a couple grand to the final price, but the little luxuries are nice over the lifetime of the truck, and for how much they cost base… just do it now.

As for expensive stuff I added that I could do without. I went with the moonroof, which is nice at times, but if it was a choice between that and other options I listed I would take those first.

I can’t answer specifically.
But I get a lot of videos from White Face Ford
He does a lot of builds for farmers.

If I was in the market I’d check them out and would not hesitate to fly somewhere.

8' bed is a must on a full size
According to whiteface videos they are coming out with 8’ Termor

He also orders some f250 hd trucks.

Idk what the situation is currently.
But in 12 when I bought a ram getting a 3500 got you into a Gvrw high enough they didn’t come with the stupid crap tire sensors.

If I was in the market and could get something without tpms I definitely would
