Would the Kenai be decent for glassing or should I stick with a down puffy?

I like my kenai. Like others have said the wind goes right through it. If it gets to windy I just throw my rain jacket on to cut the wind.

September in the West can be 75 and sunny or 25 degrees (or less) and dumping snow all in the same week. Happens all the time. Base layer, strongfleece and puffy with 5 ish ounces of quality down is what I always bring at the minimum. Usually a light rain jacket as well.

You about got it...but I’d add some gloves and a beanie and then you nailed it!
I add a pair of long underwear, it was very useful for my week long archery backpack, we were camped at timberline and that early season coldfront snowstorm was hellacious.
