Looking at getting a new set of tires. Always liked BFG AT and had great performance out of them, but they are not cheap. At the risk of being chastised with preemptive "you get what you pay for" admonishments, does anybody have a recommendation on a cheaper, but near in quality, all-terrain tire?

I’ve been back and forth and back again. Between Nitto Ridge Grapplers, Falken Wildpeak at3ws and KO2s. All great options. The Falken’s are more affordable and get great reviews.

I’ll probably go with the Graps in a 285/75/17.

I just switched to the Cooper XLT AT3 on my Land Cruiser. Awesome tire. More aggressive than the BFG, and quieter than almost any other off road tire I have had. I'm only about 6k miles into them as of now, but little to no wear. Off road and in the snow they have been excellent. Possibly the best in snow I have used.
I wouldn't say there is any quality decrease between those and the BFG, plus a 60k mile treadwear warranty.
I got them from Discount and had them match an online price I found, they actually beat it by 10%. Ended up with a great deal.

Put them on your list!

Other option I would look at are the Falken Wildpeak AT3. We have those on a full size Bronco and a 17 Duramax, with great results as well. Though we will probably phase those to the Coopers when they are done.

I have the Nitto ridge grapplers on my Dodge 2500 and they have been great! Hardly any road noise, great snow traction, and they are really holding up well after 30k. I will buy them again when these are done.

I have been running Toyo AtII on my Tundra. Little cheaper than BFG's. Cant say enough good things about them. Great traction and quieter than the BFG's. I am getting 60k miles on a set. Just put 3rd set on the truck couple months ago. Been up and down some pretty sketchy stuff and they have never let me down.

I second the Cooper AT3 XLT's. Great tire. I've got about 6000 miles on them, 5000 of those miles with a 3500 lb camper on. No complaints.

I’ve been real happy with the cooper at3 also. Just put a new set on before I went to Wyoming this year. I got 68,000 miles out of my last set and for right at $900 out the door at America’s Tire it’s tough to beat.

I have been using nitto Terra grapplers for at least 8 years now. Think it's probably 10. Not saying they are the best but I have been happy enough with them that I don't look around. Ran them on a 3/4 ton diesel first. Now the past 2 -1 ton dually's. Lots of off road miles and I do more driving with a 5th wheel trailer than without. Average 40k per set. No idea cost comparison to the ko's.

Falken Wildpeak AT3's here as well...E load rating, quiet, tough, and affordable. Haven't gotten enough miles on them to see about wear but hope for 50,000.

Although I am currently running BFG's, I have run 3 sets of Treadwright Mud Claws in the past, with no issues, probably 100,000 or so miles in total. Several trips from Colorado to Montana, and multiple long road trips with them and alot of off-roading, have made me a big fan. They are heavy and ride rougher than BFGs, but they are hard to beat for the price.

I was running a set of General Grabber AT2 on my FJ before I sold it. 50k miles and were still in great shape. A bunch of backcountry miles quail, elk and turkey hunting. Even more miles towing an 18' Champion bass boat. Great set of tires.

A coupme other guys said Falken Wildpeak AT3s. Thats what Ive been running lately and I love them. Ive had probably 15 different sets of mud terrains and all terrains and I think these are my favorite. I got them on sale considerably cheaper than the MTRs I was running. They wear very well and have the deepest tread of any all terrain I believe.

I've run Hankook all terrain with good success on both my F-150 and my Dodge 2500 Cummins before that. 60K+ miles each time. Went with a cheaper option this time - General Grabbers. Probably close to 20K miles them and like them so far.

Hankook dynapros here too. Not quite as aggressive or stylish as the bfg's but they lasted 2x longer in my experience on the same vehicle.

These treadwright tires are shockingly cheap. Nearly half the price of BFG's. Anybody heard negative feedback on them?

BFG ko2 is a pretty good tire for the price in my opinion. I think Goodyear Duratracs are very good as well for something near same price but slightly less.
How in the world can anybody get 50k miles on an offroad tire? I look to get two full hunting seasons on a set and they’re off before that next comes up. I figure if I get anything over 30-35k miles on a set its just bonus miles its more than I expected. Ive gotta have good traction and I won’t push it at all. Especially at the price tires are and alot of places offering 6 months same as cash financing.
I am opinionated on this, I have hit a telephone pole once driving in the rain on bald tires. Tires, brake pads, and rotors. Never cheap out or push them longer than necessary. Save money someplace else.
