All things .308 Win

Got 2 308's. Ones a bolt gun 16 inch barrel and the other is an AR10 with a 10.5 inch barrel. Both used for whitetail mainly with shots inside 200 yards. What bullets would yal recommend for each gun?

My longtime favorite deer .308 bullets are 165 gr Sierra HP Gamekings.

I wouldn't worry to much about the 16" barrel as pretty much anything will be just fine for deer and i personally would stick with that one since you have two.

Do you know the muzzle velocity of the 10.5? If i had to use the 10.5 i would go with a light bullet 110-130 grains as i'm not sure of the velocity of heavier bullets at 200 yds from a short barrel.

I don't but that gun don't get taken but in thick woods to back up the bow. Inside 50 yard shots

In that case (others may disagree), i'd use the same for both, if using cup and core bullets...that would be the easy button.

If your AR-10 shoots subsonics, that would be another easy option for sub-50 yds.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. Both will be suppressed so don't have to use subs but if there's a good round inside 50 I'd use it

150 yards,
Hornady a-max.
Animal dropped instantly
Bullet went clean through and destroyed the heart

I took 2 animals with the a-max hand loads from a friend and each animal died where it stood.

I took 2 animals with some swift siroccos this year. The first animal took 30 seconds and a second bullet to expire. The second animal died instantly, but that was due to shot placement. I firmly believe the second animal would’ve become a rodeo if it weren’t for where the bullet entered.IMG_3930.jpeg

Damn it turned him inside out!

Sorry couldn’t help it…

178gr ELDX from a 20” barrel on a decent mule deer. MV 2540, 417yrd steep uphill shot. Impact velocity would be sub 2000 I think.
Quartering to shot. Entered the chest low in front of the leg, exited just behind the off side leg under scapula. Golf ball sized exit, missing the heart, got lungs and caused severe bleeding. Buck ran 30yds and tipped over dead. Cavity was full of blood and exit was bubbling. I need to get better at my wound photos. These are just after removal of the front shoulders I meant to get better pics after brisket and rib meat was removed but forgot.
Very happy with performance.
