I've had pilots never weigh our gear or even ask about weight, and I've had others who are very particular... For those who are particular, I comply to the letter of the weight rule... Afterall, its their show until we land.
We go in knda-sorta light, so maybe that's why they have never asked... Don't know. A few luxuries are a nice thing to have, but are not a make or break it for us. I figure if you can't go out with less than a 100lbs, you shouldn't be there...
KJH, that is one hell of a list.
The old adage from years gone by: "Minimum amount of gear, maximum amount of experience".
That's what I was thinking too..............wow! lol
It's really not that much once its packed up.
This list is our list for 2-3 hunters going to a 7-12 day DIY fly-in caribou or moose camp. I have used this basic list for trips in Alaska and Canada
6 years on... portable solar chargers might be the only new thing to consider? AND how about a picture of those custom hunting pants, please !?!?• 2 pr. Pants. (your preference; mine are very modified for me with attachments, added pockets, sewn in gaiters, etc
Larry is there anywhere I can order your book on float trip moose hunting? I read your book on the caribou herds before taking my first up the haul road in 2022! Want to keep the tradition going! For me, scrub the solar chargers. Buy a couple fat usb/utility chargers and charge them full before you go afield.
Survival item that'll get a fire going even if wet AF. road flare
Take fewer clothes than you think you'll need, but pack one extra jet boil fuel.
Med kit: Small SAMS splint, sports tape, motrin, maybe benadryl.
headlamp after August and spare batteries for it and GPS.
If meat hunting, take your kill kit seriously. Spare game bag set to keep meat fresh, temperature probe, tarps for cover, ground clothe for staging, and a Stanley wood saw.
Pocket full of can-do and leave the quit.
Everything else previously noted is good stuff too.
