"Back in the old days" there would be some reminder posts, every once in a while, calling for folks to chime in with direct experience, and not simply repeat what the group was saying. There was also the infamous "parrot" accusations a while ago, ha. Snyder's UPS/Fedex truck review joke. Etc, etc.

"In my experience" of course can be extrapolated into some topics without harm, so I do not think this is a 100% all the time kind of thing. I'm sure I've broken faith with this "rule" at some point.

But I feel compelled to post, and ask, for this simple go/no go before posting - am I talking about something that I have direct experience with? Otherwise, groupthink tends to take over. This could apply to just about everything we discuss on here. Free exchange of ideas, experiences, and opinions is not in danger, but the validity of some of it gets watered down at times.

@robby denning, @Ryan Avery feel free to nuke this if it does not apply anymore or you don't agree.......feels like it is time to float the idea again.

It was on my list to post something similar after the first of the year.

If you haven't done it, STFU!

In all seriousness, haven't forums and social media groups always been this way though? I think there has always been a need for some vetting when looking for advice or real world experience online. It generally doesn't take much to see who is spitting facts vs bs

Thanks for the PSA. I feel like since RS has grown over the last ~12 years that there has been a dilution of the expertise that once existed amongst the members.

I get Rokslide gets called out for “groupthink” but honestly this forum seemed to be the one forum out of most where guys proposed “theories” and then went out and conducted it tests and then posted said results… wanna talk about group think most of the hunting world thinks shooting an elk with a match bullet in .223 is absolutely bonkers, they also think Loopy’s are the gold standard ect ect… but yeah I think everyone should take a lot of stuff people say with a grain of salt and vet things for themselves

I’m not gonna respond about experience if it isnt from my personal experience.

So tired of the parrots and followers. The .223 thing is just that. I see it pop up on other forums. You gotta go to Rokslide and look at this, it proves everything. There’s pictures!!!!

I get razzed for saying 243 is a subpar caliber. I shoot it and truly feel it is. Just old and tired of shooting 30-06.

Grain of salt for sure. Look for the “i did this” part and iffn it is missing, disregard comment.

Many folks want reaffirmation. Just bought xyz - is it any good vs, thinking about buying xyz, is it any good…

This is about as good a forum as is left. Moderators keep it tidy and good intel floating around. The memes kick ass. In the top 2 for me.

It’s fun to have a mix of experience levels, young guys and old, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Even if they don’t know what they are saying, it’s nice to see guys interested in it all. If you outlaw poor judgement who is left? Lol

If you don’t blindly group think and parrot Form do you even Rokslide?

That 93.7% of Rok now

They should just change the name to blindly follow and do everything form says slide.

You forgot the kind of trucks especially on this forum…. Toyota haha 🤣

How would you police this? Liars love the internet because you can’t prove they are lying. What are the chances that every rokslide member is an amazing hunter, shooter, woodsman, etc, and everyone else sucks. Pretty freaking low because there are a lot of liars and wannabes in the world. How about just don’t believe anything you read on the internet without verifying it yourself.

The internet is, well the internet. You will always have to weed through the junk. I find rokslide has lots of good contributors and fairly open to respectful dialogue . I can only compare it to hunttalk because it's the other hunting site I really frequent. I don't even sign in to that one anymore because if you don't go along with the few frequent posters there then you are basically mocked. I find that site to be a total sh!tshow. Wasn't like that years ago. Talk about know it alls. Spend some time there.

I think there are plenty of folks here that respond to inquiries that have direct experience. And I find most people here quite respectful. And of course, the search functiin here is truly your friend because there is a ton of great historical info. I search here much more than I post.

Step 2: make influencers release their tax records anytime they say something is the best
I'm in the clear, my dog doesn't compensate me in a taxable form.

Three people popped in my head when I read the first post here, one has already commented.

This is why I was attracted to Rokslide. I think it is consistently improving and there's about 20 people I'd love to meet and mess with equipment with.
