I would say that people use harvested because it sounds more poetic.

I have more of a gripe about people wiping clean and posing an animal for a photo shoot after killing it.
You don't like people trying to show respect for the animal they just killed instead of a gory photo with the tongue hanging out?

I have never heard that perspective before.

Cowardice and pandering.

Not exclusively so. PA has used “harvest” in it’s regulations since 1929. So it dates back to some pretty rugged generations.

These fellows had a rather intellectual discussion on the topic, in the other direction, ending on a proper note.

Indeed. Go to Europe and I think they do it very respectfully. I don’t know if they say harvest, but believe not. But what they do after the kill is so much more respectful than what we most often see in US hunting culture, imo.

I say 'harvest' some of the time and couldn't give a sh*t if it sounds PC. F&G across many states has used the term for decades and I just got used to reading it. To harvest means to go out and get something, animals, vegetables, votes...

Websters

1a: to gather in (a crop) : reap harvesting corn
1b: to gather, catch, hunt, or kill (salmon, oysters, deer, etc.) for human use, sport, or population control

It’s literally for the hunter who killed the animal.

But hey, that’s just like my opinion man 👍

Yes, the animal cares not about the photo. Or it’s head on a wall.

There’s still a place for respect and grace in the harvest, or kill if you prefer.

Not going to Europe anytime soon, can you fill me in? What do they do?

pulled from the web for expedience:

“After a hunt, whether an individual or driven hunt, hunters pay their respects to the game taken. During the closing ceremony—the game bag—the game is laid down, with its right side facing the ground, in a rectangle defined by pine branches. There are fires at each of the four corners. With this presentation, hunters say goodbye to the game and show their appreciation for nature. Each downed animal has a small branch most often from a pine tree, in its mouth representing its last bite. When taking the game from the place where it was caught, the hunters point the animal’s head toward the natural area so that for the last time it can look at the place where it lived.”

Hmm I don't know that quote seems pretty historical. I agree though the posed up pictures have always seemed pretty goofy to me.

For the original topic, I think harvest is 100% accurate, Webster's says so! I probably say both depending on audience and haven't given it much thought

You could do some actual research on it if you really are interested.
