Looking to build an integral suppressed 9mm bolt action. Anyone converted something to 9 that’s reliable? Thinking about taking a mean arms mag and using it with a ruger American that takes ar mags and rebarreling it. Worried about the feeeding. Might be better off using a ruger 77/357 and having it built off that.

If you aren't entirely wedded to a bolt-action, and are just looking for max suppression or something, there are a couple of 9mm lever guns on the market that might work, both mag fed and tube fed.

There was a thread on this topic months ago. I always thought something built on the Spanish Destroyer action would be fun.

The other discussion was actually about a 5.7x28 bolt action rifle, but I think some of the same points apply to this discussion.

Armscor 22 tcm bolt. The tcm case is the same dimension or very very close to 9x19.
I wanted to start with that because of the ease, but have been told to stay away. I really want to stay 9mm just because but the ruger 77/357 has been appealing to me because of reliability. At the end of the day I want it to be on the small end and reliable. Probably start with the ruger American and if it flops go with the 77/357.

Why did they say to stay away? Its a rear locking bolt, but 9x19 isn't high pressure

What a fun project. I bet any action with front locking lugs will be a no go since the case is so short and loading past the front bolt lug recesses is a loooong way for the stubby 9mm.

As soon as I wrote that last sentence the very first 9mm bolt action googled turns up as a Remington 700 so I was wrong about that. lol

Using the same alterations to the bolt I can see how just about any action could be used. You’d be the coolest kid on Rokslide with a Tikka 9mm.

The easiest option, as mentioned above, is to use a Rock Island .22 TCM. My next suggestion would be to build a straight-pull AR-15. Glock mag lower, side-charge upper, etc. A standard 5.56 bolt will work, though you'll likely need to have a custom barrel made to use a 5.56 barrel extension. This should be a fun project. Keep us updated.

Edit to add this step-by-step process of converting a .22 TCM to a 9mm. Pretty cool project. https://rifleshooter.com/2019/10/building-a-9mm-bolt-action-rifle/

I agree with the tcm being the easiest. I think the rifles can be quirky sent he wants to stay away from them. Also read where others have said the same. But as with most things if you want weird it’s not going to be easy.
