My brother shot an antelope with a 7RM @ 70 yds. We literally folded it in half when we put it on the game cart. Lots of energy that hit a bone. I would go a smaller caliber, but that's me
Mine shoots factory Winchester ballistic tip(150 gr) the best, so that's what I shoot out of it. Never shot an elk with it, but no issues with close up whitetails or 400 yd mulies. I don't shoulder shoot.
I have used the old 150gr Ballistic Tip, 139 SST Heavy Magnums from Hornady. Also 120 Barnes X and 120 Ballistic Tips.
The 150s were the old style that were thin jacketed and they were a little much. The 139 SST would leave craters on the exit through the shoulders. 120 Barnes didn’t mess up too much meat considering the 3350fps. The 120 Ballistic Tips I cant say how they do on shoulders but I did take a few behind the shoulder shots. On one doe the offside shoulder was bruised pretty good on a 100 yard shot. Velocity was 3400+.
I don’t use my 7RM much anymore because I float around like a butterfly from rifle to rifle.
