7mm08 set up for reloading

Ok show the targets then, not hand drawn pictures. This time post some were ALL the shots are touching like you cliam
I’m sorry. I cannot acquiesce to your request for I feel the request to be disingenuous. Blessings be to you on your journey of intellectual enlightenment in the shooting and hunting sports.

For good reason I ceased posting on this thread. It devolved from a discussion into a peeing contest. I hope the OP was able to find the answer to his question amongst all the various opinions.

My 308, older model 700, went from 1.5 inches to 0.83 by increasing OAL to 2.825 which is mag length. Sample size: 4 consecutive three shot groups ranging from 0.68 to 0.83 in. For a rifle I bought new for $323 I'll take it!

I confirmed by using an impact bullet puller, partially pulling and reseating factory RP 150gr core locked rounds the same way. Same result! At the time I was handloading speer 150 spitzer boat tails. I switched to Sierra and they behave the same way.

My 700 ADL and 700 VS prefer bullets close to the lands. Some do, and some dont care.

Use big intervals because you can't really afford to shoot statistically significant groups anyway. Remember, a three shot group can prove you're BAD. But it absolutely cannot prove you're GOOD.
You can fine tune later. Find the flavor it likes first.

I have done similar load development on 7 mm 08 with similar results. Also model 700. I just had the picture handy for 308 in case somebody thinks I'm talking smack :)

Varying seating depth keeping powder charge constant to tune barrel harmonics for smaller groups is a time tested technique. Keeping seating depth constant and varying powder charge will do the same thing for the most part, although it probably isn’t ideal for someone shooting competitive br.
