7mm rem mag powder

Hello everyone, im just getting started in reloading and i have bought some nosler accubonds 160grs and would like to buy some 162 eldx as well but i dont know what powder i should start out with. Now i have a nosler reloading manual but there is alot of options to chose from and i dont want to buy 3 different powders to start with. Imr 4831 or h1000 are the ones that have peaked my interest the most and Ill be shooting these out of my tikka with a 9.5 twist rate, thanks.

Imr7828 consistently gave me the best velocity in 7mm mag. I never did try h1000 since I couldn't find it when I was playing with the 7 mag.

Never did try any other powder either due to local availability but I wouldnt have anyway with the great results I got with IMR7828.

Reloder 22 has been working great for me with 160 Accubonds and 160 Partitions in a 24" barrel. I'm getting velocities of between 2950 and 2970 fps, depending which load I use. I could push it further, but am content with using RL22 at the loads I have now.

Imr 7828ssc has been really good for me in 2-7mags and my 257 weatherby mags as well

Of the powders shared so far, availability could be your biggest concern.

My go-to in a 300 Win is IMR 7828.

That's where I'd start in your 7MM Rem Mag if it was available. Used that when I loaded for a friend in 7mm Rem Mag. Took a look for the load data I came up with, but wasn't able to find it at first glance.

I’m like you - for that weight of bullet r22 worked nicely right off the bat with the three 7 mags I’ve loaded for so I’ve tried very few other powders.

I'm sure that other powders work, but I agree that RL22 is easy-peazy. I think it has low fouling, relatively low blast signature, and decent temperature stability. And you can develop loads in excess of 3000 fps, if you really want to.

I wanted to try rl22 but good luck finding it these days I had 7828ssc for the weatherbys and once I got a good load was able to actually get enough 7828 to feel comfortable. Alliant is really behind the ball on getting powders to market

My go to was always H1000 for 7RM, always good results with 160 class projectiles. Has recently been in stock pretty often online.

On just about all of our 7mm's and even my 28 Nosler Retumbo has been the magic powder. H1000 and H4831sc would be my next choices

My factory Rem 700 liked imr7828ssc for 150/160's. 165 and up Retumbo is the ticket.

I started with H1000 and ultimately settled on VVN550. It was a little faster and gave me much better ES and SD numbers compared to H1000.

You just have to test and see what your rifle / cartridge combination likes for yourself. What somebody might suggest might not be a good choice.

I used reloader 22 and liked it but switched to IMR 4831. My Weatherby Accumark really shoots the best with the 4831 and winchester ballistic Silvertips. This is my long range gun. Considering trying some Accubonds because one of the deer I cut up myself, I found the jacket from the bullet and no lead. Bonded bullets will not shed the jacket
