Didn't go 20!

Nice bull, can't wait to shoot my 18" 7PRC this weekend for the first time.

I had the thought after this hunt I should’ve went 18” I absolutely love packing a compact rifle.

I’m super curious to hear about yours after you get it broke in.

Hopefully your handloading!

Will let you know. I'm unfortunately not a handloader yet. I do buy custom loaded ammo from Unknown Munitions. Breaking it in with factory ELD-X and ELD-M ammo tho first.

Any updates on how your 18 inch 7PRC is shooting?
Following because I'm looking at building one.
@Cbthomas

I just shot the 7prc for the first time this weekend. It was surprisingly soft shooting using an Ultra 9 suppressor. Total weight about 8.5 lbs.

Shooting Hornady Precision Hunter ammo, it averaged about 2630 fps during the break-in. I expect it to speed up over time for sure. But even at 2630, it is 1800 fps to 700 yards, which is exactly what I wanted.

Shorter is better.

I agree. For hunting ranges, there really is no “need” for longer barrels. Using 1800 FPS as minimum velocity at 5k elevation, my 16” 223 is good out to 700, my 16” 6 creed is good out to 700 and my 18” 6.5 PRC is good just past 1000. Just my opinion but longer barrels seem pointless to me, especially when you use a suppressor.

So I ordered a 7 PRC with intent of cutting to 20 inches...debating on 18 after this with my 7mm-08 an factory hornady ammo that's suppose to be 2950 which I'm gonna find someone with a 24 inch just to find out lol. My 7mm-08 is on 16.5 inches suppressed.

Currently 22 inch barrel chronographed some factory 180 eld 3 shot average 2814. I'm going to handload some 162 eldm Peterson Brass. Pretty sure I'm gonna do 18 inches soon as I get a chance to get to my gunsmith. Weighs 6.5lbs now I absolutely did not like shooting it without a suppressor they have forever ruined me lol. Should be 8.5lbs with scope an suppressor.

Wow. That's quite a velocity difference. Box (assuming 24" barrel) says 2975, so you're giving up about 50fps per inch of barrel.
Yeah I chronographed with 22 inch barrel am was 2810 so 32.75 per inch of "real" velocity not box. Which I expected 25-35 from what I seen on my 7mm-08

Try out the 170 terminal ascents. You will prolly be 2840+ still - I'm right at 3k with a 22"
