Tikka action. Carbon six barrelWhat action and barrel?
Before you commit to direct thread, do a little more research. If you're interested in a TBAC, call them and ask them point blank about CB vs direct thread.
Every single direct thread muffler I've been around comes loose after a handfull of rounds or bouncing around in a vehicle. All my CB mounted stuff has never came loose on me.
With which bullet and powder ?Agree with possible quickness on the barrel wear. But I think you will be able to get there.
I’m just shy of that with a WSM and 20” barrel. From reports and reloading data appears the PRC is 3gr hotter with most powders. So I think it’s a reasonable goal.
I almost went with a carbon six. Hows it grouping?Tikka action. Carbon six barrel
I typically only shoot 3 shot groups but it’s been pretty consistently sub 3/4”.I almost went with a carbon six. Hows it grouping?
Carbon 6 prefit on a tikka. 175eldx w/RL26 loaded to 2.975” (65gr…about 1.5 below pressure….I haven’t shot the shorter barrel at the pressure load but it would be north of 2900. In a 23” it was 3000).With which bullet and powder ?
Nice, thats with the factory precision hunter?I typically only shoot 3 shot groups but it’s been pretty consistently sub 3/4”.
Those were with 175 Berger elite hunters. Sd of 17 with the factory eldx.Nice, thats with the factory precision hunter?
Curious what kind of SD and ES your getting with the factory ammo
And I got roughly the exact same at 2780 with the factory 175s. The person working up my load said that the factory was extremely hot and showing fairly heavy ejector marks. We decided on 162 ELDX at 2877 f/ps. Factory does put it in one hole though I have to say. At 100 yards as well as two it’s really tight, but the ES was high, as you can see on the labradar.I am getting 2775ish at the muzzle currently with the 175 ph factory ammo. Haven’t had a chance to finish load development yet with the 180 hybrids.
This chart is assuming 500ft elevation where I hunt in Texas. Obviously as you get higher in elevation your bullet will hold velocity further out.

Yeah I was getting stiff bolt left and ejector marks with the factory 175 so I stopped shooting it. Is your barrel 18” also? What powder are you using with the 162?And I got roughly the exact same at 2780 with the factory 175s. I was hoping to be in the 29’s. When the ADG brass comes in he thinks there’s a good chance we can bump it up maybe a little.. so what is your opinion on that speech? just got in to the bigger calipers recently.

I would recommend switching to the 162gr ELD-M over the X.I was hoping to be in the 29’s. When the ADG brass comes in he thinks there’s a good chance we can bump it up maybe a little.. so what is your opinion on that speech? just got in to the bigger calipers recently.
What type of range do you think I will have with this? Hoping for an elk hunt in Colorado that looks to be secured

That will definitely kill things. I’m sure you’ll find mixed feedback on the 162 eld being appropriate for elk. As with anything, put holes in organs that aren’t meant to have holes and the thing will die.So does the 2877 muzzle velocity out of the 20 inch barrel with 162 grains sounds good? really would like to take it out, reasonably far on an elk. Going on an Aoudad hunt in West Texas hopefully next week. They said some reasonably long shots.
You know I may be falling victim to this all speed thing, but these high BC bullets change things up down range. That will definitely kill things. Edit to add- I’d have no problem shooting that at audad under 700 (self imposed limitation)
Pull up a ballistic calculator and plug in your specifics. Altitude, velocity, and bullet bc. That will give you a chart for expected velocity and energy at various distances so you can decide what is appropriate. The eld bullets are supposed to expand down to pretty low velocity but I tend to assume 1800 fps as a minimum. You know I may be falling victim to this all speed thing, but these high BC bullets change things up down range.
It looks like both are pretty similar and still expanding out to ~830 yards. If you’re hunting under that range then I think you’re fine with either. The 162s coming out of the muzzle almost 100 feet faster are caught up to quickly with that extreme BC of the 175s. Disregard the box. It’s a VX 6 on the rifle.
