7 PRC Velocities / FACTORY Ammo

Are people still having issues with the hornady? I’m in the market for a new rifle and have a 7rem mag and a 7PRC for similar price but mostly only Hornady ELDX for the PRC

I just lent my chrono to a buddy to check his. Browning xbolt, I think his barrel is 24”
He got 2774 with factory Hornady 175 eldx

That’s what I have in my cart. Well the xbolt speed 2 anyways. Was it consistent with that load? Or all over the map

ok thanks, any accuracy issues and was there any signs of of over pressure? And does he have any regrets haha
No pressure issues in the limited amount he shot. He won the rifle at an RMEF banquet so no regrets 😁 there

Went back to the range. Federal ELDX average 2940 with a SD of 20fps. Was getting 2830 with Hornady. 22” proof Sendero.

Following up on my post 292 (immediately above) re: Hornady 180 ELDM factory load:

Additional 22 shots fired with very disappointing results:

Min 2798
Avg 2861
Max 2924
ES 125.3
SD 33.8

Dies and components on the way.

2805 last got with match ammo, little faster today with different lot. Got heavy bolt lift on some. Eldx precision hunter is usually 2855 or so.

20” c6 barrel.

I have a 22" Proof prefit in 7 PRC for a Tikka. I usually shoot handloaded Berger 180 VLD hunters with H1000 at 2880 fps. I have used Hornady Match 3 different times in this rifle with great accuracy, but crazy velocity and problems.

The first batch was two boxes that I saw on the shelf at a local store in either late 2022 or early 2023. It averaged around 2920 and shot great. No problems at all.

When the barrel shipped, I decided to go online and order 3 more boxes to get to 100 total rounds for breaking in the barrel. These would have been purchased in June of 2023. These were the most accurate of the Match that I've tried easily under .5 MOA. The problem was that they were slower at around 2850, and they would blow primers out occasionally. I ended up having 3 blown primers in the 60 rounds and ejector marks on another 4 cases.

Most recently, I picked up a couple boxes to get some extra brass. These also shoot very accurate, but they are very slow at 2780 fps.

The crazy range in velocity is annoying, but all lots have been very accurate in my rifle. I have not tried any other brands of factory ammo besides the Hornady Match.

I have a Weatherby Mark V High Country with a 24'' barrel in 7 PRC.
Tried out factory Hornady 175's and 180's with poor velocities and sub par accuracy for what I'm used to with those bullets. Also shot the federal ELDX with good accuracy and averaged right at 3000 fps. Then tried out the Federal 170 TA and was very happy with the results. Averaging 3040 fps after 2 boxes and probably averaging 3/4 MOA 3-shot groups. My buddy has a Weatherby 307 Alpine CT with a 22'' BSF carbon barrel in 7 PRC shooting the 170 TA's and he is averaging 2960 fps with sub-moa accuracy as well. The 170 TA is what we are both going to be shooting this fall.

Had a client kill a bear with the 170 TA load at 280 yards. It broke a rib on the entrance, liquified the lungs, blew through a rib on the opposite side and exited completely.

Another data point.
