I would like to get a rifle that would be good for deer sized game and for practice. Would you go with a 6mm CM or the 25-06 and why?
Took 1 post for someone to go off topic. Gotta love internet forums.6.5cm, short action less muzzle blast, more ammo options. I love the 25-06 though, it is a classic.
I've been wanting a smaller caliber for a while and looking at ammo shelves 6mm and 25-06 are still on the shelf. Makes me think it's time to buy one. Have a possible Ruger American Predator in 6mm option. All I see on the shelves around Denver are 6cm, 25-06, and 300wsm. I think on paper the 6cm factory loadings seem much better than 25-06 mainly because the cartridge is designed for long high BC bullets, and the 25-06 offerings seem to start fast and slow quick. I beleive there are likely to be much better bullet options in 6mm now and in the future. A 6cm is on my short list of calibers for a pronghorn rifle.

Actually I didn’t have my readers on...but you are right people can over emote on the web.Took 1 post for someone to go off topic. Gotta love internet forums.
When I was looking for a rifle for my dad a few months ago and trying to decide between 6.5cm and .243, I would have gotten a 6cm in a heartbeat had it been available in a Vanguard. I think it has a good future since the cartridge was designed for high bc bullets, which is the limiting factor of the 25-06 design.I've been wanting a smaller caliber for a while and looking at ammo shelves 6mm and 25-06 are still on the shelf. Im rebarreling my 6.5cm into a 6cm. I'm justifying it as the rifle my boy can grow into when he's old enough to come hunt with me. But in the years in between, it's mine. As far as reasons, the comment above about 6.5 are still my reasons, short action, ammo, recoil.
