I would like to get a rifle that would be good for deer sized game and for practice. Would you go with a 6mm CM or the 25-06 and why?

All I see on the shelves around Denver are 6cm, 25-06, and 300wsm. I think on paper the 6cm factory loadings seem much better than 25-06 mainly because the cartridge is designed for long high BC bullets, and the 25-06 offerings seem to start fast and slow quick. I beleive there are likely to be much better bullet options in 6mm now and in the future. A 6cm is on my short list of calibers for a pronghorn rifle.

I've been wanting a smaller caliber for a while and looking at ammo shelves 6mm and 25-06 are still on the shelf. Makes me think it's time to buy one. Have a possible Ruger American Predator in 6mm option.

I would vote 6mm creed. I am having one built myself for a practice/match gun, but also coyotes, antelope, prairie dogs...stuff like that.

How is barrel life on a 6mm. I have heard people say the .243 will shoot out a barrel fast but not sure if its true. How about barrel life on the 25-06?

When I was looking for a rifle for my dad a few months ago and trying to decide between 6.5cm and .243, I would have gotten a 6cm in a heartbeat had it been available in a Vanguard. I think it has a good future since the cartridge was designed for high bc bullets, which is the limiting factor of the 25-06 design.

Im rebarreling my 6.5cm into a 6cm. I'm justifying it as the rifle my boy can grow into when he's old enough to come hunt with me. But in the years in between, it's mine. As far as reasons, the comment above about 6.5 are still my reasons, short action, ammo, recoil.

Almost bought one for my wife but I do think it's an interesting round.
I wanted to play a long on the off-track track.

I asked my gunsmith about barrel life for those cartridges, and his response was a long the lines of "if you have to ask, you aren't the kind of shooter that would care about +/- 500 shots"

Have a barrel on order for a 6cm build. Talking to people who have used this, they say plan on 2000 rounds if loaded to max velocity . I ordered a 7.5 twist barrel, planning on running 90 to 107 grain bullets. Going to be using this rifle for predators. Next step will be trying to find a set of dies.

Im debating rebarreling my 280ai Montana or sell it and buy something like a Browning Hells Canyon Speed. Or just buy something cheaper like the Ruger.
