TaperPin does make a valid point. If you run the barrel long enough, not only do you gain velocity, but exit pressure will be low enough that it will perform the same function as a suppressor.

OP, I now suggest a 45-inch 6mm Creedmoor barrel for your build. Just to be safe, have the muzzle threaded for a short can if noise is still too loud.

There's a 99% Fieldcraft unthreaded 6CM in the LGS. I'd buy it but I already have two Fieldcraft 6CMs. I bought the first Fieldcraft plain barrel and a box of Hornady 108 ELDMs and was so amazed I bought a second one threaded for predators [wolves and coyotes]. Fantastic little rifles that require no tinkering nor tunting. All this after wearing out two barrels on my Dakota 243. I much prefer the 6CM.

Any hints on what state/location
Things change on there pretty quick sometimes, now they have a 6.5CM in Oregon :https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/101690781

a 308 in Texas: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/101684575

and 6.5 PRC in Minnesota : https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/101628438

They will ship to any BP or Cabelas for free. I normally just go to the whole used section, that shows all 5000+ guns, and search by Manufacturer : https://www.basspro.com/l/used-guns

Good luck with your search

Thank you! Wish there was a 6creed just to take to the smith but if price is right maybe could dump the barrel

6 CM is magic. I suggest Tikka and a rebarrel based on price and performance, but there are many options. Find the short action you like, and rock on.
may be a dumb question (I am new here) but if I am looking for a Tikka just to re-barrel into 6CM, which calibers are friendly with this idea? My (perhaps inexperienced) assumption is that I probably shouldn't re-barrel 300 WINMAG into a 6mm CM or is that wrong?

I’ve got a B-14 in 300wm and it’s a pretty good shooter for the price. Likes off the shelf just as much as hand loads. Neither one perfect, but 1 moa works for my purposes.

The 3 differences are bolt, bolt stop and magazine. Bolt stop and magazine are easily replaced but I would definitely get a donor rifle with the correct bolt.
.470 bolt face is what you’re looking for. .308 7/08 .243 6.5 creed should all fit what you’re trying to do. There’s probably more tikka factory chambering that would fit but those are the most common I can think of.

I am in a similar boat to you. I have considered a tikka and seekins as well. I know this option is not as popular, but I have also looked at Ruger American gen 2 in 6mm CM. I went down to Sportsman’s and held one. To my untrained eye it seemed like a nice gun. The action felt smooth enough and I read they fixed the feeding issues the gen 1 had. They seem to have a good reputation as far as accuracy goes. If I do go the Ruger route I will put it in an MDT chassis.

Once again kicking a rifle idea around. I have gone thru all the threads regarding the 223, 6.5, 6mm/243, 7mm-08 and think I have decided to go 6mm Creedmoor. For my needs it seems like it work perfectly. Only issue is not many factory offerings. I'm kicking around the idea of buying a stainless tikka in a non-magnum short action caliber and having unknown munititions do the work. If you were putting together a 6mm Creedmoor which barrel length and twist rate would you go with

If you will be running a suppressor then go with a shorter barrel. I like an 16”-18” for my style of hunting. A 7 or 7.5 twist will do the job.
