6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Is there any reason to shoot the TMK or ELDM/X over the nosler BT if keeping shots within 200 yards? I don’t see any reason for the better BC from the aforementioned bullets if the NBT performs just as well or even better terminally.

I would have no problem running the NBTs to 500 yards given sufficient muzzle velocity.

Sample size of 1… I put a 95gr BT through an antelope with a 1650-1700fps impact velocity and it performed well. Broadside pass through the lungs with a 20oz coke bottle shaped wound channel and golf ball sized exit.
Probably pushing it, but it was a follow up on a wounded critter

Anyone used the 6 ARC on Caribou yet? Debating taking mine for my hunt in August. Have a 6.5 PRC I'm working on putting together, but keep coming back to wanting to take the 6 arc. My 16.5" proof has 108ELDMs going 2620 which is still over 1800fps at 550yds - outside of a range I'm willing to shoot currently.

Only hangup is grizz at this point, although I will have a 10mm on my chest and other guys with me shooting 300WM or 7 PRC.
Haven't used it at all, but have killed plenty of caribou, and know of plenty others killed with everything down to at least 223/55 grain. Caribou aren't difficult to kill. As long as your rifle has the range you want, which seems it does, it will work great.

I wouldn't have any concerns about bears with whatever you bring. Most guys seem to be overprepared for bears, if anything.

You’ll be just fine with 6 ARC. I’ve taken lots of caribou with 223 and last year I brought my 243

Anyone shooting the 115 dtac with a 6 cm? What's your velocity and barrel length?

My daughter has a 9 twist 243 Winchester and has drawn her first elk tag. We have been shooting 95 grain ballistic tips for deer in the 243. Our target range allows practice to 500 meters. There will be no shots at game beyond that. Preferably 300 yards and closer would be ideal for her.

What difference if any will there be in wound channels between the 95 ballistic tip and 103 ELDX? Will the size or shape of the wound channel present any reason to use the 103 ELDX over the 95g ballistic tips on elk? According to load data both the 103 and 95 should have a muzzle velocity of 2850-2900.

If we elect to use the 103, I have some H1000. Is anyone using this combination in an 243 and how is it working for you?

Depending on your elevation and speed the 103 might not stabilize with a 9 twist. I was going to load some up for my wife’s 243 but figured out it was a 10 twist. However, maybe it would be fine.

If the 95 are shooting well out of the gun, I probably would keep shooting those personally.

95 will take an elk down and out. Don’t fret.

Not that it really needs more juice than 2900 but a 95 in a standard 22" 243 will easily do 3k. A cousin of mine had 100gr partitions in a 20" barrel at 3150 but that was also going off of the typical reloader's pressure signs, and I don't know what case life was like.

H4831 has been the most accurate powder with heavier projectiles in my 9.25 twist .243’s. My most accurate load with the 103’s was pretty much right at 3000fps and the 95’s it’s around 2925. I really wanted to shoot the 103’s but they seem to be marginally stable. They group ok at 100 yards but I tried them again and the groups opened up to a little over 2 MOA at 430 yards. The 95 gr noslers grouped much tighter at the longer ranges so I’m going stick with them for now. I am kind of secretly hoping this barrel burns up soon so that Incan screw my 6 creed barrel on it.
