6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I grew up hunting with my 243. I‘ve harvested dozens of whitetails, two big mature mule deer and a couple of antelope with no issue. Also live in Texas and shot hundreds of hogs and it did just fine. The secret is to use at least 100 grains and something stronger than a regular soft point. Always used factory ammo.

I have two .243s. A Tikka and a Rem Model 7. Have taken a few whitetails over the years, switched to mono bullets a few years back. 85 grain Fed Trophy Copper shoots like target ammo out of my Tikka. Sub MOA, excellent bullet performance/penetration.

Have a couple whitetails under 100 yds. 85 gr powershok copper and 95 gr federal gusion work well. Neither went over 10 yds after the shot

Thanks, would you say they perform on par with the 108 ELDM on game or better?

313lb boar hog
Shot at about 90 yards with thermal
Impact velocity around 2600 fps (18” 6creed)
Factory 108 Eldm

Entered front right shoulder.. didn’t exit but good golly the damage to the other side was impressive. Everything near opposite shoulder was mush. My buddy that was with me couldn’t believe how much damage the little 108gr bullet did. Absolutely no reason for a bigger gun .

We kill literally hundreds of hogs every year… despite what everyone says they aren’t bullet proof. Most kills actually come from SBR 7.62x39s shooting cheap 124gr Russian soft points.

In the 3rd picture you can see the tough “shield” people rave about big boars having. Despite what some think….. it’s not stopping any bullet moving at Hypersonic speeds

Anyone have any examples made with the 87 gr v-max? Just developed a load with the daughters new .243 with this bullet and thinking of letting her use it on mule deer this fall. I’m assuming if you guys are experiencing good results with 75 v-max that the 87 is probably just fine.

I’ve had great results from the 75 VMax in a 243. Have some 87’s to try but have not used them yet. Also had great results with 6.5mm 95 VMax from a grendel. Would expect good results from the 87’s as well.

I am a fan of monolithic copper bullets in the .243. Although I intended to handload, am getting excellent performance from Federal Trophy Copper 85 grain. 1/2” groups out of my Tikka, good expansion and penetration. All exits on deer 100 yards and in. Attached is a photo of an exit on a 200 lb ten point buck.
