6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

You might check the 106tap thread that was floating around when the bullets showed up for sale. I can’t remember if it was posted there or not. Seen a few kills with them so far posted also.

Gotcha. I appreciate it. I’ve killed a few things with them, but haven’t had the chance to stretch the out enough to care about the BC

I am a little new to this topic so bare with me. When looking at velocity at your farthest effective range for bullets like the eld-x and ballistic tip. Are you ok with 1800 fps or do you like a little more for wiggle room?
generally yes. Some will perform as low as 1400 but that’s outside of manufacturer recommendations nor has there been enough data that I’ve seen to say it’s consistent enough to trust.

I prefer to stick to a 2000fps limit for peace of mind. I also tent to try different bullets that aren’t as verified as others so that’s a factor for me. Plus, 2000fps gets me far past where I’m comfortable shooting animals anyway.

Have you killed any others with the 106 TAPs?

I’ve only seen 3 kills with them and all were indistinguishable from a 108 ELDM kill basically.
The TAP factory 6arc loads are hotter - that’s been my only noticeable difference.

I am still debating having my 223 bolt face opened up and throwing on a 6 arc barrel and having that be my one gun.

If you're opening a 700 rem bolt....I can trade you a .473 bolt for the 223.

16” barrel has them around 2,600, still settling in though and will speed up.
Hey guys. I wanted to clear something up here as apparently I couldn’t read my own writing and I was incorrectly remembering what I wrote down in my field note book.

I went out to check zero on a few guns and to see how much two of my newer barrels were speeding up.

On this 6 creed with 115s, the numbers weren’t making sense to my brain on the garmin. So I dug up my original session from when I shot it unsuppressed and when the barrel was still new.

That session showed an average velocity of 2690 and I had written down what looked like 2590. 😬

Luckily my profile was synced with the correct number from the garmin and not my field notebook chicken scratch.

I did just have to do a profile resync today. The barrel has sped up a lot between break in and adding the suppressor.

Here is the current average velocity of my 16” suppressed 6 creed shooting the current load of 115 Bergers.

I've only killed 1 muley with 109 ELDm and 1 whitetail with 106 TAPs. Both got shot multiple times though haha. Would agree that no obvious difference was identified.

6mm GT = 34% more case capacity than 6mm ARC
6mm Creedmoor = 58% more.

6mm GT case capacity to bore area ratio is identical to that of 6.5mm Creedmoor.
Do you have a full list of the common 6's with these percentages?
6 GT
6 CM
6 PRC
6 SAUM
6 UM

etc. Just curious all the differences (I don't reload).

So far just these:

I'm using dimensional case capacities from here.

7mm SAUM capacity is .324 in³ -- 6mm will be quite close to that.

I haven't had time yet to reverse-engineer his math so I can arbitrarily add other cartridges (on my list for some big storm that keeps me inside for a few days this winter).

The kid logged the first two kills with 6 creed this weekend.

Ruger American Gen 2 22" barrel with factory brake, haven't figured out which can I want to put on it yet. Velo unknown, wasn't going to chrono til I get 60 to 80 rounds through it.

Hornady Match 108 ELD M

Animal 1: 1.5 year old whitetail buck. 95 yards and slight quartered to. Entrance was just behind front shoulder and a little high. Exit was mid body. Caught top of lung, liver, and back of offside lung. Bullet diameter hole through hide and muscle tissue, opened up to 1.5 inches on impact with ribs. 3 separate exit holes, one larger and 2 smaller from shrapnel. Traveled 15 yards before expiring. Enough blood to follow but mostly due to location of entrance and exit, body cavity was full.

Animal 2: yearling whitetail doe. 110 yards and quartered away. Entered the middle of the scapula mid body and bullet was found against the hide mid neck. Dropped immediately. Middle of front shoulder was an absolute mess, unfortunately couldn't save any meat from the front shoulder or neck on that side. Front of onside lung was gone as well. Forgot to get a picture of the rib cage below the scap, I'll see if I can get one yet.

The bullet did exactly what it was expected to although I am concerned with the amount of meat loss moving forward. On the other hand I'm used to killing them with archery equipment so maybe I just need to expect that.

Sorry for the lack of formatting. Tried to add photos in the same order as description
