So I have a .243 barrel being fluted and cut to 20” right now it’s a 7.5T.
I was wondering what your thoughts are. I smith has the 6prc reamer already I would have to buy the 6um reamer and gauge if I went that route.
I’m hoping to run the 108 eldm or the new 116 TMK . what’s everybody’s thoughts between the two and which one would you go with? Also, if you have any real world experience on velocity comparison with the 20 inch. Thank you

Performance is a difference in velocity based on the powder capacity.

How fast do you want to spit the bullet?

The PRC or 6 UM 30 are load and shoot. PRC is a bit easier to find components and dies.

6 UM 40 is max velocity.

Don’t go below 20” is what I hear with UM.

I wanted to build a 6 prc but it was easier/quicker to get everything for the 6um. Reamer was in stock, dies were in stock, brass was available.

If your smith has a 6 prc reamer you'd need a pretty specialized use case to justify the extra money to buy a UM reamer. Does the UM 40° beat a prc? Yes but by how much at what cost is worth asking. I went through the same questions and ended up with a 6 prc for what its worth. No shade on the UM though they have built a great ecosystem.

I would first see what your smith has for reamers and what you can get. Prc will be cheaper and less likely to ever run out of components if you have a set of bushing dies. UM your stuck with Whidden dies and adg brass unless you find 7 saum brass and want to mess with necking and fireforming. The big question is, is the extra velocity of the um worth it to you

The 6 UM 40 honestly is probably overkill for most of what I do.
But after almost three weeks of hunting last fall for elk it sure was nice to dump my bull at 905. Five inch wound channel behind the shoulder that caught on the offside ribs.
He was down in a couple of seconds.

Definitely not my plan A shot distance. I should have shot the bigger bulls I passed at 200.

But with zero wind, dead calm and knowing my system was dialed it wasn't any different than shooting at 100.

I did give him a warning shot to be sporting though in all fairness. Air balled it. He didn't take the hint

I’ve had both, sold the UM, great performance but not for my needs, basically because anything bigger than a deer I shoot with a 300 NMi, unnecessary I know, but love that round 🤣. My 20 inch 6 PRC shoots a 108 Berger @ 3140, it leaves blood trails Stevie Wonder could follow.
Have you tried the 116's yet on your 6 prc?
