6UM or Something More Practical?

My birthday is coming up and I am being gifted a Defiance Action in any length I would like. I initially thought I would like to build a 6UM. However there are not any phenomenal monos and then one I would like to shoot, DRT 95gr, seems to have horrific BC. Also, I am worried that switching from those to TMKs constantly might waste some barrel life I could use hunting. I also cannot do a .224 because I would like this to be my go to gun for any state. I also have a plan for a .224 in the future that’ll stay as a mono specific gun, but that’s just not currently in the budget.

My question is: Is the 6UM the best 6mm you can get and still practical for both copper and lead bullet applications?

Second question: If you had the opportunity to build an all around rifle with low recoil, what cartridge would you go with?

You know I love 6UMs, but honestly, 90% of people don’t need one. I’d highly suggest building or buying a 6CM and shooting the barrel out. That process will make you a better shooter and help you decide whether you really need a 6UM

I came here to tastefully say this same thing.

If I was going to put together a custom 6mm, it would be a Dasher or GT or BR. Something with the least amount of recoil that got me to my max intended hunting range with 108 ELDs or the new heavier TMKs.

How far will you shoot to take game? An 18” 6 creed is solid inside 600 and lethal beyond depending on DA.

90% of the people Avery referenced will never shoot far enough to need the 6 UM, so I concur with the 6 Creedmoor as my suggestion.

If you didn’t know, clean the barrel down to steel as you alternate between mono and jacketed bullets to maximize accuracy.
