What? 6arc & 243 use the same bullets. Just get a 1:9 or 1:8 twist and you can shoot the 100gr soft point.

Typical factory 243 ammo is meant for the 1:10 twist. If you get 243 with 103 or 108 its typically gping to cost you $60 a box. If you reload its no big deal based on the post i doubt thos person reloads as this will be their only gun. A 100 grain soft point is a terrible bullet...

Hmm, I've killed a lot of game with a 100 grain Remington CoreLokt and Hornady Interlock with a 243 and watch just as many die. Sub 300 yards is no issue for a 100 grain soft point.

Yeah a 65cm is pretty mild in the recoil department. Rifle weight makes a big difference here. Most guys a building 65cm in lightweight rifles. I had a Ti3, 20in proof carbon, hnt26 setup, suppressed. 156s at 2750 with hot load of rl26, it was pretty punchy, but it was like 8.2# all up.

My woman started hunting with a 65cm, but then she wanted to start hunting elk, so I converted her Tikka to a 65prc, she killed and shot it well, but it wasn't pleasent for her at the range. Now that Tikka is a 6cm with a supressor and she loves it.

For a female, confirm her dominant eye matches her dominant hand. Lots of RH women are actually left eye dominate. I've introduced 5 women to shooting rifles at distance, one was lefty, 4 righties, but 3 of the 5 were left eye dominant.

I'd def look for a 6cm. Mild enough recoil with no muzzle device, but excellent down range performance!

If im starting from scratch im building around performance. 100 grain soft point will work but its just old technology. Probably should not have said "terrible" but I'd never waste my time with a soft point due to inherent limitations in consistency, BC, and its iperating envelope. A 103 eldx or a 108 eldm is going to give you much better performance in multiple departments. A 600 yard shot on a 6 inch plate with a 108 even in a 10 mph wind is a piece of cake if you have tight sd's. In a 243 youll still get good performance but I'd focus on the higher bc offerings. Between a 243 and a 6 arc, 6 arc hands down if im buying factory ammo but really 6.5 creedmoor is the better of all because of support. If im not reloading 6.5 creedmoor all the way. If reloading I'd recommend 6 gt.

My friend is not going to be a long range shooter. Yes, there are a lot of bullets that make excellent wound channels more devastating than “traditional soft points”. I would venture a guess though, that at a range of 250 yards or less though most of the “traditional Walmart soft points” will create sufficient damage to kill an elk quickly, probably more damage than monos that some hunters use. The various soft points have been and continue to account for the majority of game killed world wide. There would be no issues killing an elk with 100 grain federal blue box, 100 grain corelokt, interlock, etc.

As to my original post, my friend was unsure what the rifle situation would be for her hunt. I asked about the 6.5 creed because it’s hard not to consider that for an individual seeking 1 rifle. The 6 arc is cool and would be the choice if it was available in a tikka factory rifle.

In the end though. I recommended an 8 twist tikka in 243, topped with a 6x SWFA. I also suggested 100 rounds of 103eldx ammo from unknown to get started shooting with and kill the elk with.
