New to reloading; 223, 7-08 and 30-06 with only 100s, not 1000s, of rounds reloaded to date. New, to me, 6.5x47L heading my way. Do I purchase 50 rounds of Lapua 139g Scenar ammo or 100 cases of Alpha brass to start? Essentially the same price. I can make arguments for either, curious what experienced loaders would do with a new caliber?

I’d personally shoot the factory go have have then run some 144 Berger hybrids and varget. Or 130’s.

I burnt my barrel out. Want to spin another one up. What are you doing with this rifle? Hunting targets prs nrl hunter? A mixture of all? When I do another one I wanna try 130 tmk’s or 130 eldm’s. The 144’s were monsters in the wind though.

This will only be a target rifle for me; my 30-06 is my hunting rifle and reaches out further than I can! Just shooting once a week and reloading for that day. I belong to a great range with several options; paper to 200, silhouettes staggered to 800, another paper to 1000 and then your own placed targets to a mile. Right now I’m spending my time at the 200 and 800.

My other rifles I’ve had several weight options so has been easy to start with factory loads and at least, somewhat, dial in what seems to work best. Not many factory loads for this new rifle!

Man, lapua x47 brass is perfection. I’d be hard pressed to use anything else but I have near 600 pieces from before alpha and Peterson days.

I’ve had a couple different x47s and only shot ELDs, Berger’s, and JLKs with them over varget and H4350. Never tried a single load combo that didn’t hammer.

Tempted to spin up another lighter barrel for NRL hunter with the idea of pushing pretty hard with 144s to meet power factor.

130 AR hybrids seem to be one of the easiest but seriously any Berger hybrid, eldm, ATip, scenar, or SMK is probably a good place to start. Stuff it on top of some varget or h4350 and proceed to shooting bugholes.

144 LRHTs are magic in my wife’s 6.5x47 out to 1400 yards where she ran out of scope elevation. That has since been remedied but we haven’t seen able to make it back to shoot again.

That has to the most consistent bullet I have seen, possibly ever. Each dial up was spot on from 500 to 1400 yards.

Alpha brass, CCI BR4 primers, RL17 powder. Just over 2800 fps.
