6.5 PRC powder

I shot today at 1850 yards.
26" barrel,
7.5 twist,
velocity 3100 ft.,
Hornady brass,
primers Federal 215m,
Powder Vihta N165 58gr.
bullet A-Tip 153.
I hit it without problems but the high pressure caused the primers to fly out and broke the ejector.

Hornady data shows 53.3g as max load

Did you work up to that load? Were you seeing an pressure signs before?

I'm sure that your load was WAY over the SAAMI spec of 65K psi. I'm glad that all that happened was a broken ejector and some ruined brass.

I was working with a factory Tikka 24.3" barrel and this load on this barrel gave a velocity of 2950 ft/s. I thought on the new barrel it would be about the same velocity, I didn't think the velocity would be higher by 150 ft/s.

For those finding luck with H1000, Retumbo, Etc. What is your preferred primer?

Just saw this, a fed 210 std and 56.7 pushed a 135 berger perfectly, 1 hole at 100 yds
