6.5 PRC powder

I shot today at 1850 yards.
26" barrel,
7.5 twist,
velocity 3100 ft.,
Hornady brass,
primers Federal 215m,
Powder Vihta N165 58gr.
bullet A-Tip 153.
I hit it without problems but the high pressure caused the primers to fly out and broke the ejector.
Hornady data shows 53.3g as max load

Did you work up to that load? Were you seeing an pressure signs before?

I'm sure that your load was WAY over the SAAMI spec of 65K psi. I'm glad that all that happened was a broken ejector and some ruined brass.

I was working with a factory Tikka 24.3" barrel and this load on this barrel gave a velocity of 2950 ft/s. I thought on the new barrel it would be about the same velocity, I didn't think the velocity would be higher by 150 ft/s.

I could not get H1000 as accurate as I would like with 140 class bullets but it seems to be finding a home with berger 156, Still need to find a seating depth it likes, For 140's, n560 is doing the trick for me with good vel (3k+) and accuracy.

I know this is an old post, but I just started reloading 6.5 PRC and tried out the N565 with Hornady 143 ELD-X. I was not able to find data on this combo, but worked up loads to 54gr where I am getting around 2715fps. I was hoping to get a bit more speed out of this round but don’t want to run hot loads.
What have others found works well?
N568 was super accurate for me but was super slow. N565 didn't impress me much. It was faster but accuracy was disappointing. 20" barrel 156 bergers

I’m going to be loading for a 20in 6.5 prc here soon. I’m thinking Lapua brass, Berger 140’s or 143eldx so it’s not too much of a turd and N560. Anyone see a problem or a better idea??

My load- 41.5g of h4350 with 143eldx 24” proof barrel gets me 2789fps w zero pressure. Just about a compressed load. I can’t say I see a problem but just sharing cuz.

n565 with 156 berger and 210 primer hornady brass seated out a bit is a great load in my seekins. Dont recall gr weight but you gotta work up to it anyway. I am a bit over book but seating a bit long bc I can in a seekins made that possible.

You may also want to look into the “6.5 Carolina Load”. It worked very well for me but was slower than my previous load mentioned.
I’m guessing you’re shooting a creedmoor. This is a 6.5 prc thread. That’s where my confusion was saying nearly compressed 41.5 gr load. Lol

Well you asked about a 6.5 CM so you had all of us confused and wondering why the conversation turned gay all of a sudden…

H4350 or Reloder 16 has been great for me in shorter barrels with the Creedmoor. N560 isn't near as temperature stable and either of those.
