6.5 PRC for elk? If so how far?

All kinds of speculation on this but just wondering if anyone has any real-world experience here.

Looking at these three calibers for an elk rifle. What would you say the max effective range is for each?

In my view not an elk cartridge for all round elk hunting. Timber, odd angles, etc will be problematic. Works fine on standing still broadside if you have time.

223 and 6.5 Creedmoor work for everything up to moose, but the 6.5 PRC is marginal

In my opinion, the 6.5 PRC is a great deer and Antelope caliber, but a little light for Elk. It does kill Elk, but 300yds would be the max for me in good weather. With Elk, bigger is better.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to get back to posting in other threads informing people on when their bullet drops below 1500 ft/lbs energy and can no longer penetrate the reinforced skin of an elk.

What you need for Elk is a 6.5 PRC Creedmoor Ultra Mag.

People kill elk yearly with a pointy stick. A 6.5 prc is more than adequate out as far as any normal hunter has any business shooting.

Have you seen the 223 thread ?? I’d imagine a projectile twice as big and moving a few hundred fps more would kill an elk just fine
