Every time I see one of these post about is xx good for elk or for how far, I just think about a bunch of sharks, circling a raft, just waiting for someone to fall in and mention "energy"

In my opinion, the 6.5 PRC is a great deer and Antelope caliber, but a little light for Elk. It does kill Elk, but 300yds would be the max for me in good weather. With Elk, bigger is better.

I haven't taken an elk with mine. But I would feel comfortable shooting an elk with my 6.5 PRC loaded with 142ABLR out to 600 yards if I really needed to. Most people are 300 yards or closer. A lot of calibers can do 300 yards and kill an elk no problem. You're over thinking it. Don't listen to a lot of these people. I have seen videos of elk getting shot near 800 yards with a 6.5 PRC. I think you'll be alright with it. I would recommend it. Mine is great.

Maybe 6.5PRC would work if your elk are emaciated and close to death by starvation. But the elk I hunt are built different. Even their antlers grow weird, almost out of their jaw...

I'm presuming off angles and small shot windows so a bigger bullet or one that has a longer wound channel can more ethically kill in less ideal situations. Seen my dad do it with his 300wm, something I wouldnt try with my 270 or 6.5.

You would think you would want a smaller bullet for a small window. It would fit better than a larger bullet.

It's definitely big enough. Most rifles chambered in 6.5 prc have long barrels and make their designed fps

It appears that some of those elks are in the timber with the anti timber cartridge/caliber in question, sent from rifles far longer than suitable for timber. {<sarcastic jazz hands>}
