6.5 PRC for elk? If so how far?

Well crap. I sold my 6.5 PRC after I destroyed two mule deer with it this year, went with a smaller caliber rifle to preserve meat. Guess I’ll dust off my ol’ .300WM in October and check the zero to make sure it’s good to kill elk this fall. I would certainly hate to find myself in a situation where I couldn’t take a 900 yard off angle shot in the timber and not have enough gun…

Ive killed 3 elk over 500 one was 608, a speed goat at 570 and two mule deer with 147 grain eldms. None went more than 10 yards. Its a great caliber if you can shoot.

My 6.5 PRC is a great rifle and round and I agree with most it is more than enough. I however usually grab my 300 WM. My shooting is good, but western hunting adds many variables which I feel more comfortable with the heavier bullet.
Why not a shotgun with a slug?
